Description This is my most complex space scene, done a while back. There's a lot to improve in terms of composition and I'm working on rebuilding and injecting some life in it (like, have the ships actually engage in a battle, add some movement, also significantly improve the asteroid field and overall environment), plus replace the cruiser with a ship built specifically for this scene.
Comments always welcome.

...

Oh right, forgot to tell the story. An ancient AI system defender is awoken by insolent intruders. They have to run for it without unlocking the Old Empire secrets he's guarding...

This is a pretty iconic scene.

Very nice work.  Your brief story reminds me of the old computer game Master's of Orion II.

Thanks, I know what you're thinking about. I've got a lot of conceptual notes on a rogue-like space game where you can recover only ancient ships & artifacts and can't build anything new, so this scene is sort of an off-shoot from that.

I think sometimes that the point of MOO3 (it was three, not two I was thinking of) was defeating the ancient guardian ships.

But, I like that idea for a rogue-like.

I'm looking forward to seeing your revamp of this scene, especially the new ship you'd replace the cruiser with.  However, I do like the dramatic lighting.  I think it adds to the realism; shadows are harsh in space.

Rogue-likes with permadeath are harsh, just like space; and rogue-likes provide a different unique story every time you start a new game.

The new ship is actually the blue ship wip I posted at the same time. I may post some more wips of the scene as I progress.
