And it was a "hard" work to get her soles so dirty. At first we apply some real dirt on her feet for the foto session, the rest is done with a little software support.

You always have to option of having her walk around the backyard for a couple of hours, but as far as having some measure of control over the effect, yep, the software alternative is much better than the hardware alternative.

A "hardware" option for running barefoot (already used in winter) was a "painting" of the soles. We receive good results with dirt, collected with a steel brush from the tyres of our car (dirt from the brakes). This you can apply this with a normal brush on the soles (a little bit wetness on the soles is helpful). The rest will be software work ....

Looks pretty good! The distribution looks natural, and gives no clue that it is all artificial.
