Description Taken at the Indianapolis Zoo - Indianapolis, IN

This photo is dedicated to who loves meerkats as much as I love cheetahs I dare say. When I got to this zoo, getting some wonderful photos of these enchanting creatures was second only to seeing the cheetahs just so I could share some wonderful shots with Cynthia. Having my new D700 made it easy for me to crank the ISO up to have a faster shutter speed and get some fantastic portraits.

Meerkats are very social creatures as has been displayed by Animal Planet's Meerkat Manor and show altruistic behavior in acts such as having lookouts while the adults are foraging, non-producing females lactating to feed the young as well as teaching their young skills such as how to take a stinger off a scorpion in order to enjoy the crunchy meal.

I'm so grateful to have such an excellent shot dedicated to me! Just look at those eyes!!! You can just stare at them all day long! I got hooked on meerkats by watching Meerkat Manor on AP.
