Not even a whole week had past after the death of Mufasa and Simba, yet the pridelands had changed so drastically. Hyenas upon hyenas had joined into the pridelands, Nala started to count them to pass the time; to distract her from what had happened. For the past few days she sat near the edge of the cave, she felt her mothers concerned gaze from time to time but nothing could get her to stand or eat. Now she heard the scuffle of young cubs from the back of the cave, she knew she wouldn't be joining their games. Nothing could feel the same anymore, everything was wrong. She let her eyes wander to her three cousins, cubs of Leo and Laza. She'd never really been close to them, but she had found a new appreciation for life; for she knew now how quickly it could be taken away. Perhaps she could become closer to them. Although the cubs continued to bounce all the lionesses remained asleep, the stress from the hyenas had kept them on high alert... but even the strongest willed lioness could stay awake for so long. "Those hyenas can't do anything to us!" Nyeupi stated confidently. "It's against the law! I'll show them who's boss." For all the zeal the white lion exhibited she knew from experience how dangerous hyenas could be. "Perhaps we could go check them out, I wonder what they look like up close. And we haven't been let out of the cave since they came, I need to stretch my legs!" The complaint came from the golden cub Kuu. "Let's go, just for a minute!" Kuu and Nyeupi strutted towards the entrance, their sister Jangwa followed more hesitantly. After a few steps out of the cave the sprinted out of Nala's view. This can't end well Nala thought to herself. For the first time Since Simba's death she dragged herself off the ground and followed them
The cubs only got so far before a hyena pinned them behind a log, Nala jumped in front of them immediately. Simba was brave enough to save her life from a hyena, so now she had to be. From conversations between the hyena's she recognized this one as Banagi. She knew she didn't have long to choose her next actions, but something in her told her she was willing to lay her life down to save her little cousins.
Only Nala and Nyeupi survived the confrontation.

The main reason I made this now is I wanted to create a picture with these cubs , the dark cub in that picture with his back turned is just Chumvi.
I really enjoy adding the semi-cannon cubs to my stories, and since they are shown with cub Simba they have to be from his generation... so I decided to use them to add to Nala's trauma. This is a beginning of Nala really taking her leadership role.
In the back row from left to right the cubs are Jangwa, Nyeupi, and Kuu. In front of them is Nala, and the hyena is named Banagi.
