After their marriage Kion and Rani's relationship began to deteriorate. Kion was a righteous lion, refusing to listen to criticism. He was used to preventing predators from hunting, saving lives made him the good guy right? Rani disagreed with his values seeing his actions as ways to make himself feel more powerful. In truth, Kion did miss being the leader he once was, he felt tied down by Rani's orders and longed for the thrills he used to have with his friends. Kion felt Rani didn't respect him because she wouldn't let him make decisions for the pride, and Rani felt Kion didn't respect her as he would continue to go behind her back to do 'what he thought was right.'

Eventually their turmoil reached a breaking point and Kion left the tree of life returning to the pridelands, on his own he was able to reflect on his actions and behaviors with the help of Vitani and Kiara knocking some sense into him. Kion eventually returned to the tree profusely apologizing to Rani and asked her if they could try to mend their relationship. It took time, until they reached full adulthood, but they finally came to a place where they could rely on each other and use their differing opinions as an asset rather than a hindrance.

Yeahhh in my opinion Rani and Kion got married so young there is no way that would have been a smooth sailing ship. I would like to expand upon Rani and Kion differing politics and attitudes and lean into Kion's hard headedness and temper. There is definitely a lot of growing that would need to happen before they would have a stable relationship.
