Well Vitani looks nothing like Zira, the only outlander look to her is her scruffy fur[that could just be due to being out roughing it] and her sharp pointy outlander nose. She looks like a pride lander almost 100%! She has yellow/goldenish colored fur, blue eyes, and a leaner pride lander build. She makes sense to be a NalaxScar cub. Really, she does. xD

Per your questions, well, given what's shown in the original what if segment, it's safe to say that there's, ah, something between Scar and Nala. But specifically for the look in Scar's eyes, I had the idea of a dragon guarding its horde more in mind. Possessive defensiveness...or some such.
