It was a calm humid morning in settingclan. The skies were white with clouds but it was still as hot as ever. Cherrypelt reluctantly plucked herself out of the clammy warriors den and stretched out in the clearing. She was generally one of the earliest rising cats and today, like most days she was up before the others. She went to get some water, responsibly checking for signs of a drought and then found a comfortable shaded spot and began grooming her long pelt. Her fur was very thick and a bright-ish colour which wasnt an advantage of being in settingclan, what with the heat. So she frequently relaxed in the shade.

A mostly white tom with ginger tabby along the top of his head and covering his tail padded in with a smaller and similarly looking tom. The larger of the two looked down at the smaller cat and smiled. "You keep working on that move we talked about and I'm sure you'll get better at it... For now, training is dismissed. Practice on your own if you want but you should take some rest for now, Lostpaw..." He meowed with a small smile to the cat as the mute tom gave a nod in response. "Also, make sure Juniperpaw is doing okay after that little 'incident'..." He meowed to the apprentice with a sly grin as the tom only flushed before quickly moving away from the warrior. Fuzzyleaf just chuckled at his apprentice as he found it rather amusing at how bashful Lostpaw tended to get around Juniperpaw now since their accident when him and Appletail had them spar. Fuzzyleaf shook his head light but he wouldn't pry even though he had a good feeling that Lostpaw might like Juniperpaw, not that he was planning on playing matchmaker anytime soon. He turned his head and looked around camp with a flick of his tail before he spotted a ginger tabby and trotted over to her with a smile. "Hello there blossom, anything new around camp besides your adoring appearance?" He purred softly to the she-cat.

Cherrypaw glued her gaze to the other cat and cocked her head whilst letting out a quiet "hmph". She sighed, her mood slightly affected by the heat, "Hello fuzzyleaf, can I help you with something or are you trying to make me more flustered than i already am?" She jokingly mewed at him. She puffed out her chest fur and twitched her nose, sinking further down to the ground and playfully rolling onto her back, to get some air to her belly.

Fuzzyleaf purred in amusement as the she-cat before he tilted his head to the side. "Not really... I've been out of camp most of the day training Lostpaw so I really don't know what's been going on around camp while I was away..." He pointed out to the she-cat. "But if you don't have anything new, I could leave you alone blossom." He hummed as he twitched his tail lightly. He enjoyed giving nicknames to she-cats since it was rather fun in his opinion. Chirpstep's nickname is little bird since birds chirp and she was a bit smaller than him so he tended to tease her a bit by the nickname and Appletail's nickname is feisty fruit but that was mainly because she tended to ignore his antics whenever they trained Lostpaw and Juniperpaw together. He has still yet to accomplish in making Appletail smile since all she did was ignore him, including when he's making jokes. He shook his head away from those thoughts before he prodded her stomach. "You do realize that laying down in the sunlight isn't going to help with cooling off..." He pointed out with a flick of his tail. "The warriors den is too stuffy, most of the territory is rocky so finding shade is difficult..." He murmured mostly to himself this time before he focused back on Cherrypelt. "Maybe moving around or taking a run will help you cool off a bit since moving around is better than staying out in the sunlight." He suggested to the she-cat as a way to help her cool off since he did want to help her out with her problem.

She rolled her eyes at him, feeling jealous that she doesnt have a cool tail to wag about. She wasnt sure what opinion she had towards his nickname for her, but she brushed it off. It did feel nice to be treated like a she-cat once in a while and not just a fighting machine to protect everyone, even though that was her intentions. "I dont think the sun is coming out today, but its still hot as ever. welp, im going for a walk then, feel free to join me~" She graciously picked herself up off the ground, "You must have been up extremely early if youve already been out training" She observed.

Fuzzyleaf flicked his tail lightly as he tilted his head to the side in thought. "I don't mind joining you for a walk if you don't mind my... 'antics' as Appletail likes to call them..." He hummed as he twitched his ears lightly. He usually called the she-cats by their nicknames in front of each other instead of saying them in front of other cats since not many cats would really understand who he was talking about if he used their nicknames. He flicked his ears lightly as Cherrypelt being early for training. "Ah... that was just a habit we started since in the beginning of training since with Lostpaw, it was difficult to understand him since he's mute but now it's easier as time goes on since I'm able to understand what he means most of the time now." He explained to the she-cat. "So training goes a bit quicker now than it usually went." He meowed as his bushy tail flicked lightly. His pelt was more medium length as his tail had a bit of bushiness to it. His fur may have been long enough to deal with the heat but since it is lighter, it's not as bad as it would be if he had darker fur.

Cherrypelt hummed in response, "Ah, i didnt know that lostpaw was mute, i always assumed he was just quiet." She meowed, "Im glad that the training is coming along okay, i'd really hate to hear that he cant do what other cats do just because he cannot speak" She added, her mothering instincts showing.
Cherrypelt desperately thought to herself, 'I beg you starclan, please send a gust of wind, atleast a breeze!'. Today was hotter than most days. Usually the length of her pelt didnt affect her an awful lot anyway, but today was breaking the record.

Fuzzyleaf shook his head. "No... he's mute... Technically Juniperpaw was the first to understand him so they became quick friends after that." He explained before he blinked at the she-cat and frowned. "Uh... he's a great apprentice still... His muteness does nothing to make him lacking in any way. He actually dislikes it if cats underestimate him just because he can't speak. He can easily use his tail to speak just fine since that's how us warriors usually speak when we're hunting and getting ready for a fight, looking to the head of the patrol for tail signals on what to do." He pointed out as his tone became stiff and sharp at Cherrypelt's seemingly pitying tone.

'there must be a misunderstanding' Cherrypelt thought to herself. She strongly noted Fuzzyleafs change of tone and realised she may have formed her words wrongly around him. Her distant stare became hard and emotionless, "Im proud of his development and i would defend him against any cat that thinks otherwise" She reassured him. "I wouldnt underestimate him because i can already tell hes going to be a great warrior someday." cherrypelt hopped forwards a few paces and looked back. After clearing up her words she changed the subject, "I dont think ill ever be able to properly lead a patrol independently. I dont have a tail to use. I can send brief signals with my ears but thats hardly enough"

Fuzzyleaf tilted his head in confusion. "Development? Define development since there was nothing to develop about his muteness... It's other cats who have to develop to understand him." He meowed as he flicked his ears lightly, not really understanding the she-cat very well. "Obviously... any cat is going to be a great warrior if given the proper training and care although I think he prefers hunting rather than fighting but Boulderstar wants the apprentice to learn how to fight so we're teaching them how to fight." He hummed calmly as he twitched his tail lightly. "Eh... there are other ways of signaling a patrol other than a tail... if your patrol knows you don't have a tail, then they will focus on your ears instead." He pointed out, blinking his blue eyes at the she-cat.

Cherrypelt sighed, trying to hold her patience with fuzzyleafs slowness. "I was referring to his development as a cat, not his munteness." She smiled lightly, trying to lift the mood. "Huh, i dont think id like having a tail, knowing my pelt it would probably be very long and make me even hotter in weather like this."

The mostly white tom blinked as he twitched his ears lightly. "Uh-huh... You didn't really clarify what you were talking about and it made sense that you were talking about his muteness considering that's what you were mostly concerned about." He explained with a flick of his tail before he blinked at the she-cat and looked at his own bushy tail. "Eh... it's not really that much of a problem... If anything, it's very handy for balance and helping keep you extra warm in leafbare." He meowed as he twitched his tail lightly. "It's not like I feel much warmer with my tail anyways..." He hummed as he tilted his head to the side in thought.

Cherrypelt hummed casually, feeling like she had offended the other cat, "I tend to be brief its just what im like, i do apologise if i offended you," She gave a worried glance in his direction, referring to the fact that he hasnt played his antics with her since she acknowledged that brokenpaw was doing well for a cat that others see as 'different'.
During their walk they had looped back and were on their way to camp, it was almost sunhigh and cherrypelt was beginning to get hungry

He blinked at her in confusion. "Oh! No, not really... I was clarifying why I didn't understand what you meant. I'm not offended at all." He explained with a flick of his tail. Fuzzyleaf lifted his gaze to the sky and twitched his ears faintly before looking at Cherrypelt. "Want to hunt something before we head back?" He suggested with a flick of his tail.

Cherrypaw smiled lightly at his proposal, "Sure, you lead the way" she bowed her head slightly and waited for him to take the lead, 'hes okay, once you get past the confusion. Im enjoying this.'

The taller tom gave a nod as he blinked at her and nodded before he veered to the side from the direction back to camp and to a place that was mostly rocky. "Most prey will be around here..." He hummed as he twitched his tail lightly.

cherrypelt walked along beside him, their pelts brushing slightly now and then. She made brief conversation before they came in range of prey, "I want to give you a nickname too... hmmmm" She lost herself in thought.

The tom smiled to her, not minding their pelts brushing as long as it didn't bother her. He then chuckled when she wanted to give him a nickname. "Sure! I don't mind. Chirpstep calls me fluffy even though the only thing that's fluffy is my tail but go ahead and call me whatever you think fits me the most." He hummed with a small smile.

Cherrypelt felt warm and happy again. She thought hard for a good nickname, "Hmmm im not sure ... how about mousebrain?" She chuckled to herself, "Im joking thats mean, uh im really not sure." She was very confused by her loss of thought while being with fuzzyleaf

He laughed before he nodded. "I figured you were joking but if you want to have mousebrain as my nickname then go ahead." He meowed jokingly as he playfully nudged her shoulder.

Cherrypelt smiled at him, "I was only kidding." She thought again, "How about redhead?" She smiled smugly, jokingly referring to his head markings. "Wait!! Ive got the perfect one!! Hows about your nickname is squirrel? Ive only seen a squirrel a few times by the borders because we dont have them here, but your redder markings are a similar colour to a squirrel and you have a bushy tail like one" Cherrypelt smiled, nudging his shoulder the same way he did to her.

He chuckled as she finally decided to call him squirrel and it was rather ironic since it was based on how his pelt was colored as well as his pelt length. "You call me whatever you like Blossom." He purred in amusement. "I picked blossom because cherries start out as blossoms when they grow on trees from what I've heard." He hummed. "And cherry blossoms are pretty, like you." He meowed as he gave her a wink.

Cherrypelt smiled at his flattery, "Nice one squirrel" She purred in amusement for her first time legitimately using the nickname she gave him.
They had approached the hunting grounds and she lowered her sounds. Staring into the distance, cherrypelt focused all of her attention on trying to spot prey that she wasnt focusing on where she was treading. The ground they were on was in the driest part of the territory, however, there was a watering hole in the center of this dry land, where prey usually thrived. The ground was extremely dry and had very large ravine-like cracks in it (its basically the top of a small canyon). If a cat was to fall down one of the cracks, they would have to walk all the way outside of the canyon and find another way up, or try using the tight space as a climbing advantage. Coincidentally, Cherrypelt, whos attention was still on prey, lost her footing to one of the cracks, the ground in the crack was almost 4 fox-lengths from the surface they were originally standing on, an easy fall, but getting stuck down there was not something Cherrypelt could bare. She managed to catch the edge of the crack with her front paws but was struggling to hold on, she kept very calm. "Fuzzyleaf-" She grunted as she struggled to dig her claws into the dry land, "Ugh! Could i get a little help here please?"

Fuzzyleaf grinned as she used the nickname as he wondered if she would continue calling him squirrel or not before he flicked his tail lightly. "Of course, my lady." He purred softly before he hushed himself as they arrived at the hunting ground. He was looking around before he blinked when he heard the sound of claws digging in the dry ground and he turned his blue eyes to see Cherrypelt hanging on to the edge of one of the cracks in the area. He chuckled softly at her misfortune before he padded over to him. "Sure blossom but you really should be more careful here." He hummed as his voice held a concerned tone mixed in with the amusement. He then carefully leaned his head down and grabbed her scruff before he slowly pulled her up, digging his own claws in the ground so he didn't slide as he was getting her out of the crack.

Cherrypelt panted softly, her body close to the ground, and shuffled closer to fuzzyleaf so her pelt was against his legs. She felt slightly shocked at the thought of getting stuck in the cracks or falling to her death and she needed a moment to recover. She took comfort in the feeling of Fuzzyleafs legs against her pelt, she was still panting"whoa- Thanks- squirrel-" She smiled up at him.

Fuzzyleaf blinked in surprise as she moved closer to him, not expecting her to seem affected by this since she seemed so calm earlier. He brushed his tail along her back to help calm her down as he tilted his head, blue eyes looking down at her in concern. "You're welcome Blossom and it's alright, I'll do my best to make sure nothing like that happens again so you can relax." He meowed soothingly since he wasn't exactly sure if he was helping her calm down by saying this. He didn't think now was the best time to start joking or teasing her about this until she's calmed down.

Cherrypelt eyes closed in a relaxed daydream. "I appreciate it squirrel cat" She joked, feeling a lot calmer. She gradually rose to her paws and walked on a little bit, making sure to look where she was going. "You coming?" She joked, as if she hadnt just nearly fallen into the canyon.

Fuzzyleaf purred in amusement as he twitched his bushy tail lightly. "Alright, just be careful next time Blossom. You don't need to be falling from the tree just yet." He hummed as he moved closer to her, letting his pelt brush hers once more as he wasn't sure whether it was to make sure she was still okay and it was his way of comforting her or it was because he just enjoyed his pelt brushing against hers. "I'm always coming blossom, you don't need to ask cause I'll always be here." He purred softly to her.

Cherrypelt felt reassured by his comment, and very appreciative. She walked on, to keep her pace with his again. She was hungry and ready for a hunt with her new friend.

There wasnt much time for conversation with their jaws full of fresh kill, until they got back to camp. She put all of the prey in the pile and asked fuzzyleaf if he would care to eat with her.

(I don't mind the time skip... This thing between Fuzzy and Cherry is interesting though since one moment it's cute and cuddly like her calming down from the incident and Fuzzy helping her calm down and the next they're acting friendly X'D)
Fuzzyleaf grinned to her as he carried a thrush and a mouse in his jaws, feeling pretty satisfied with himself with his catches. Luckily they had no more incidents on falling into anymore cracks as they trotted in camp. He placed his prey in the pile before he grinned at Cherrypelt's offer to eat with her. "Sure, I'd love to enjoy more time with you Blossom." He purred softly as he twitched his tail lightly.

Cherrypelt felt slightly flustered by his remark but she sat with him anyway, "Today has been fun with you squirrel, i find you very interesting" She admitted, with a sly smile.

Fuzzypelt grinned as he picked up a rabbit that was probably caught earlier by the hunting patrol and picked a place to sit down, patting the spot next to him with his tail. "Of course! Days are usually fun with me around!" He grinned widely to her, flicking his tail lightly before he chuckled and shook his head lightly. "It's been a while since I've been able to loosen up a bit to be honest so I'm glad I was able to enjoy it while I can." He hummed before he looked at Cherrypelt with a small smile. "I find you interesting as well Blossom so I'm sure you'll be seeing more of me in the future if you don't mind my company." He purred as he gave her a wink.

Cherrypelt let out a mrroow of laughter, before digging into the rabbit with him. She was very glad to have made a new friend, it filled her with hope as friends are always good to have. She wondered if they would go on more adventures and the thought excited her.
She was beginning to feel very tired from the heat and her early rise this morning.

Fuzzyleaf watched her eat for a bit, letting her have her fill before he started to eat the rabbit as well. After having his fill, he licked his lips and flicked his ears lightly before turning his stormy blue gaze to the she-cat next to him. "Let me know if you'd ever like to go on another hunt again or next time we could just go on a walk." He offered as he twitched his tail lightly.

Cherrypelt actively bounced around camp like a kit, on this unusually cool/colder day. She was getting some well deserved exercise that wont cause her to overheat. After a little romp around the area, her pale amber eyes locked onto the icy blue ones of her newest friend. She began hopping over to him.

Fuzzyleaf padded in camp and nodded to his apprentice that they were done with training for the day before he gave a soft sigh, closing his eyes a bit. He flicked his ears lightly before he noticed Cherrypelt heading over to him and he did his best to smile for her. "Hey there blossom, how are you doing today?" He purred softly as he twitched his bushy tail lightly against her shoulder when she reached him.
