Description

Hey all, I've finally finished another VYOA update for you all, this time its the second episode of my "Savage Shores" setting series. In the prior episode, most of you voted for the option that had our protagonist, Yu, essentially storming into the depths of the jungle itself, right away. Because of that, I drew her a bit more prepared here than she may have looked before, but depending on where this goes from here on out, things could get trickier. So here you have our protagonist before her 3 options laying before her in each direction. (hopefully that's obvious)

Now for the ongoing story;

Deciding that fortune favors the bold, Yu wasted no time in delving straight into the depths of the jungle before her. Taking merely what she'd need for even an unintended trip deep into the unknown interior of these savage shores, within a small sack, while holstering several small obsidian daggers in her thigh belt, she strode into the emerald abyss. Confident were her strides as she almost charged her way through the thick foliage of the jungle perimeter, shoving and hacking away at the clingier flora. Most of the brush around her was comprised of a tightly packed carpet of large ferns, and simple grass-like plants beneath them. Above the rest towered a dense canopy of jungle trees, and a tangled web of vines, some hanging looser than others. Yu noted that it was significantly darker in here, beneath the green cover, although the cacophony of jungle had proved even more noisy than the crashing of the ocean waves upon the shores she had recently made landfall on.

As if on some cue, just as she had begun to wonder if the seemingly endless, rolling masses of green would ever break, her foot found purchase upon the bare dirt and rock surface of a jungle clearing. As if not expecting this, Yu had to catch herself due to the abrupt change in terrain, throwing her footing off slightly. While this was little more than a half-stumble, the raven-haired woman did gain a fairly close glimpse of the ground before her, which belied its origins. This clearing was obviously not the work of intelligent hands, or the haphazard wallowings of some large beast, but whatever had rent the greenery from this patch of land was large. Yu could've lingered on that thought, but she had chosen to boldly go into the jaws of potential danger this far, so she wasn't stopping to ponder about mere turf now.

At that moment she felt her attention seized by a trio of stimuli, with her eyes first falling upon a somewhat large-looking cave directly ahead of her, a mysterious, distant rustling to her left buried behind a wall of green, and then a curiously large, winding river canyon to her right. With her option to the left in mind, it provided by far, the most uncertainty, as she could see very little beyond the large fronds of the ferns, and the boughs of the trees, but the strange, almost rhythmic thumping noises beyond them did pique her curiosity. Shifting to the directly central option, she eyed the cave before her. This could be a solid choice to delve, as caves were easily usable forms of natural shelter, should she choose to set up shop within. Yet humans were far from the only thing to think just that, so she would need to proceed with caution. And to her right lay a snake-like winding body of water, through the center of a canyon that trailed off beyond her range of sight. From this side, she could hear what sounded like increasingly violent waters... and something that sounded faintly like the tongue of the pale-skinned, yellow-haired western folk she'd heard briefly when near trading centers. This thought hung most in her mind, as the Prophecy that brought her here spoke of a "Sun-haired" hero that would aid her in finding her destiny, yet the choice immediately before her was still her's to make...

And now for the vote options:

1) Thinking it best to follow her curious mind's whims, Yu could delve back into the green depths of the jungle, to discover the origins of the thumping sounds within. After all, if something happened, she could simply re-trace her steps to the clearing right?

2) Perhaps it would be best to occupy some form of shelter now, before proceeding further? Doing so would lead her into the caves before her central path, hopefully not resulting in a lengthy venture.

3) To her right lay a currently calm, yet winding body of water albeit with the sounds of a much more violent affair in the distance. While the noises made by the yellow-haired people from lands west of her own homeland sounded as barbaric as Yu's people considered them, perhaps seeking out the source of what sounded like them, might advance her search more rapidly than the other options?

As of 8/10/2019 voting is now closed. Here are the results:

1) 0

2) 2

3) 3

Thanks. And yeah, that would be one of the more pressing sounding ones I think.

3. One of those voices might belong to whoever it was that the prophecy spoke of.. Then again it could just be birds. Either way, she should check it out.

Indubitably. But then.. What if she follows the noise, only to run into something with unusual golden plumage?

That'd be an unexpected twist wouldn't it, hopefully she figures it out before moving on

Lol plumage eh?

Yeah, true. And naturally, she could cut to the chase atm, or dawdle about lol, depending on how the votes go.

Unless it's one of those flightless birbs, with fuzz rather than feathers. But then those aren't unheard of on islands.

Of course none can deny the invisible hand of fate that moves the story in the direction of the vote!

Also the kiwi and kakapo, the latter of which I've become particularly fond of lately for some reason.

Lol yeah they got kinda popular a year or two back when that one show featured those goofy wobbly parrots prominently.

Ahh, I'm not familiar with that one. Tho I have heard they also call em owl parrots, and they can live upwards of a hundred years.. That's a long time to be doing anything, let alone derping along the forest floor every night picking up fruit.

Option 2, seems like the safest bet at the moment.

Oh? Funny she'd decide to go bold into the jungle... then play it safe lol. But still a valid point.
