The surface of the star looks like a gas giant, was that intentional?
Is it supposed to be a red dwarf or something that has not fully ionized it's atmosphere?
How did you do the flares?

Thank you... a 'gas planet' tutorial was the basis for the idea. At first I wanted to do a Sun but the Gas-Planet texture looks so good that I think it could be a red dwarf too, as you said. The flares are made with ps brushes, search for fractal brushes here on dA
