It was a german machine from the wwII era, it's purpose was the encryption and decryption of secret messages.
It's codes where deciphered by polish and british breakers. Among the information intercepted from the machine was the Zimmermann telegram, a proposal from Germany to Mexico for a joint attack against the United States.
