Description They had heard there was an accident, but no one was giving them any specifics. Whenever they asked, the reply they received was either "we don't have the answers yet" or "it's classified", and the longer the twins went without an answer, the more their imaginations ran wild with worst case scenarios. Just several hours ago their Uncle and his friends went up to a space station for scientific research, and just an hour ago they got a distress call. When the twins, Kris and Kaitlyn, had been invited to watch the launch they had never expected things to go like this. The base was full of activity because of the accident that took place on the station; everyone running in every possible direction. The sirens that blared from the moment the distress call was received still hadn't been turned off yet, and at this point the 12-year-old twins were used to it, or just too focused on getting their Uncle back safely. The emergency lights bathed over the area in intervals, in tune with the alarm, washing the surroundings in red. Kaitlyn's vision began to get blurry as her eyes started to water, trying to break into streaming tears. She wiped them away, trying to stay strong. She looked to her brother and saw that he already had streams running down his face. He was always the one to cry out of the two of them.

"They've been located!" Kaitlyn heard someone yell. And suddenly all the activity was aimed towards him. "There are five survivors at the crash site."
Survivors. Kaitlyn sighed from relief. At least their Uncle was alive. That gave her hope.

Hours passed. Kaitlyn knew that her Uncle and his friends had been brought back to the base and taken to separate rooms, but they weren't allowed to see anyone. Kaitlyn had kept trying, hoping to either convince the guard to let them see their Uncle or annoy him into doing so. It partially worked. The guard had informed another about her persistance and gone to inform someone else, or hopefully make arrangements for a visit. Kaitlyn waited patiently for the next 45 minutes. She decided that if nothing changed in the next 15 minutes she would continue demanding to see her Uncle. Fortunately that wouldn't be neccessary. The door opened and Franklin Storm walked in. He was the father of Susan and Johnny Storm; two of the friends that went up to the station with the twins' Uncle. Franklin informed the guard that he would be taking the twins. The guard seemed to relax immidiately, and looked very pleased that he didn't have to babysit anymore. Kaitlyn shot him a light scowl, even though she knew it wasn't his fault and she was just aiming her frustration at him. Franklin took the twins down the hall, leading them around several corners and through several corridors until he stopped at a door. He opened it for the twins but stayed in the hall. Inside was a dimly lit room with grey walls, ceilings and floors. A large figure sat at the back of the room on a bench that came out of the wall. He was draped in a blanket and had his head lowered.
"The accident had a large affect on your Uncle's appearance, but I promise you have nothing to fear," Franklin told them. Kaitlyn was first to approach. She felt the rush of air on her back as her brother sped up to get behind her.
"Uncle Ben? Are you okay?" Kaitlyn asked.
"Not really, kiddo." His voice was deeper and more gravelly than she remembered, but she could still recognize it as the voice that read to her before bed when she was younger. He shifted, raising his head and sitting up a little straighter. The little amount of light in the room shone down on him and revealed his new, rock-like features. Kaitlyn was mostly successful in keeping herself from reacting too strongly, but her brother couldn't keep the shock off his face as his jaw shot open and his eyes widened. Kaitlyn stared at the living statue her Uncle had become as the sadness welled up inside her chest, her face becoming doleful. She moved to his left side as he leaned back, unsure of what she was doing. She took a seat on the bench beside him and leaned against him, not saying a word. Kris, who had calmed the shocked expression that had resided on his face, took a seat as well, to the right side. And as they sat there, the twins silently reminded their Uncle that they still loved him, and that they were still family.

Hey Guys!

I drew a bitter sweet moment with Ben Grimm and my OCs.

Enjoy!
