My main issue is the way the lips look, but I think most people are over reacting. They are not as bad as everyone says they are.

I don't know what it is about this version of Mikey that I find cute, it certainly isn't the face itself, but I think it's the way he acts and the way his mannerisms are in this trailer that reminds me of the fact that it's still Mikey no matter what You are right though, people are overreacting to the new designs of the turtles way too much. I hate it when they worship the designs from the original movie series and think that they would be of better use in this movie, news flash: It's 2014, do people really expect that rubber costumes and puppet masks to be used in this day in age? I really don't see the problem here, they look the way they did in "Out of the Shadows", except the clothes and the sizes.

That's what I thought when I first saw the trailer, too. They appear to have the personalities spot on or almost so in this film, and that gives me hope for the rest of the movie, despite my reserves about the designs. And what people are saying about using the older designs being a better idea, I only partially understand. Growing up with the 2K3 series, that is the turtle design I enjoy most. I understand everyone's loyalty to their favourite generation and design, but the saying "if it's not broken, don't fix it" doesn't apply here. Most things can always be improved on. TMNT designs are one of those things. And in order to find the best improvement, risks have to be taken and people will be disappointed in the process. There is no pleasing everyone. I'm also pretty sure that there are a lot more fans out there who like the new designs or, at the very least, don't hate them as intensely. They just tend to say quiet because they don't want to receive hate for their opinions that the internet is so famous for delivering. As a result, all we hear is the negative opinions about the new movie and most of the fans who are excited about it, feel like they're alone.

Trust me, I KNOW what your coming from, as you can tell by my name, I'm a Sonic fan, and the same kind of thing happens within the internet side of Sonic fanbase. Somebody voices their opinion of their fondness of a certain game and they get COMPLETELY bashed for it. It's kinda unfair that people have to take that kind of abuse from immature fanbrats that have a temperament of a brain dead 5-year-old, glad to know that there is at least one person who is somewhat hyped for this movie

Exactly.
And I am hyped. I know a part of me will enjoy it no matter what, especially if I go with friends and get to make silly comments with them.
But something else has been brought to my attention regarding the designs of the turtles. It's more of a theory from a friend of mine, but as we were talking the other night he mentioned that Michael Bay probably didn't have enough time and/or budget to change the designs from what they were going to be as alien turtles, which would explain the facial features. Being a graduate of an animation college program, I know that modelling realistic, live action, movie characters (especially four of them) takes a lot of time and money. There's a possibility that this is what Bay wanted the turtles to look like when he had plans to make them alien turtles instead of mutant ones, and when he decided to go back to them being mutants, the models were already created and that portion of the budget was already eaten up. He then most likely decided that there was no use is wasting the money to redesign and re-model different turtle characters if he thought the current designs looked good enough or close enough. Again, this is just a theory, but it's a theory that makes sense to me.

Exactly, and another theory could be is that the mutagen could've had a massive impact on the turtle's size, which just so happens to be larger than most people their age, speaking of age, do you think that the turtles will still be 15 years old? Their pretty big so I think the oldest they can be is either 16 or 17.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TMNT-Raph-fan In reply to TheCreativeSonicPega [2014-05-13 01:01:32 +0000 UTC]

That's true. Though, personally I'm hoping they're closer to 18 or 19, because I find that will be more believable and they'd still technically be teenagers.
It feels so weird being older than the ninja turtles when I used to be younger while watching the show growing up.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheCreativeSonicPega In reply to TMNT-Raph-fan [2014-05-13 19:14:17 +0000 UTC]

I always viewed people's ages as not being officially an adult until age 20, so I see why that would make sense to you. However, I still think the oldest the turtles can be is either 16 or 17, considering the fact that society views an individual as being an adult at age 18. It would make more sense to audiences if the turtles were a bit more younger then they appear, since that's what there used to when it comes to tmnt. I wouldn't even mind if they were 15 to be honest, as long as there is some sort of explanation behind their size, such as my theory I mentioned earlier. Oh! And your welcome for the fav, I just love 2014 Raph!

TMNT-Raph-fan In reply to TheCreativeSonicPega [2014-05-14 04:03:10 +0000 UTC]

True. Although, in the Next Mutation TV show they were around 18 years old and they still kept "Teenage" in the title ... I think. Hang on. *Goes and researches* Nope. I'm wrong. It was called "Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation". No teenage anything.
So 16 or 17 is probably going to be the direction they go with for the movie then. Still not sure I'll be 100% okay with their size, though, but that's just me. I'll have to wait to see how it plays out in the film.
And an explanation in the movie along those lines would be nice. Even if all we get is April calling them out on their age/size ratio and Don simply shruging, saying something like "Just the way we mutated, I guess", I'd be okay with that. Just as long as they don't ignore it completely. And if they fail to mention their age specifically, instead keeping them generic teens, I think I'll have a fit. Or at least furrow my eyebrows with severe disappointment.

Man it seems like this conversation has been going on for like 3 months or something! XD, in all seriousness though, I do really hope that the whole size thing is explained in SOME way, even if it's very brief. As for the age, if you watch the movies you'll notice that even the turtles ages are briefly hinted upon, because Splinter always describes the mutation incident as taking place "15 years ago", meaning that the turtles, in almost every incarnation have been between the ages of 14 and 15 years old (in the 2012 cartoon,it is confirmed that they are 15). Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird are writers for this specific movie, which is why I'm totally hyped for this movie, if there's anyone we can trust with this project, it's those guys , BTW, Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation, that show...no, just, no. It was just SO hilariously bad X)Β

Actually, it's only been over a month. XD
But, yeah, that's right. I forgot about that from the old movies.
I know they're 15 in the new show, but I think in the 2K3 series they were closer to 16. Not much of a difference tho.
This is the first I'm hearing of them being writers. I read an interview they did, and they mentioned they weren't too impressed about the 2014 movie, or maybe it's just the designs they're not keen on. Either way, if they are writers for the new movie, that gives me hope for the story.
And yes, the Next Mutation was bad. I only watched the first episode then walked away. XD

The Next Mutation burns mah eyes!! XD it's funny that you said that you only watched one episode and walked away, because my mom's ex boyfriend basically did the same thing while he was watching it on Netflix, except he only watched the first 5 minutes of it before switching to another show. About Eastman and Laird not liking the reboot, it may have been during the time when the whole alien concept was still at large, which is probably why they took over as writers later on within development.

TMNT-Raph-fan In reply to TheCreativeSonicPega [2014-05-21 20:43:13 +0000 UTC]

I'm pretty sure the interview wasn't old news, but I can't remember what the publishing date was. I do remember them talking about the new designs tho, so it wouldn't have been older than the trailers. They may not have mentioned them working on the script in the interview I read, but they did talk about they're displeasure about parts of the design. They mentioned that they felt the designs looked too human. And even if they worked on the writing for the movie, they may not have had a huge hand in the designs anyway, but at least the story will be good. That is, if they got to it in time.
And the whole alien idea fiasco is probably why they got involved.

TheCreativeSonicPega In reply to TMNT-Raph-fan [2014-05-30 21:57:13 +0000 UTC]

I guess I can agree about them looking "too human", personally I think the ones that look the most human is Mikey and Donnie. Raph and Leo have the whole "muzzle" thing going on. Despite that, I still love the new designs and the actors look like there going to do a good job. Once Eastman heard about the alien idea, he was probably like "Oh Hell No! I'm taking this over with this crap!" And he whipped out his pen of justice and starting rewriting the whole thing XD

TMNT-Raph-fan In reply to TheCreativeSonicPega [2014-05-31 17:53:36 +0000 UTC]

True. I feel Mikey pulls off the human look better than Donnie, though. And the designs actually look really good when people stylize them in fanart. Just saw some really cute drawings of them on tumblr. I also have a feeling that Raph is going to end up looking the best among the designs. Can't tell for sure, though, until we get better images from the movie.
And I can imaging Eastman and Laird busting down the door of the studio wearing sunglasses with pen and paper in hand, and just be like "Ain't no one messing with our turtles today!"

Would that be chibi versions of them? I think I saw the same picture on DA, anyway, you do have a point, the human look does look better on Mikey, like I said I don't know what it is that makes Mikey cute to me, call me crazy but I just don't have a legit reason. I guess it's just the fact that I find Noel Fisher to be quite a cutie ^w^ Raph does look pretty good as well, but we'll just have to wait and see. I bet both Eastman and Laird were wearing sunglasses while walking in the studio with the Darth Vader theme playing in background, don't forget the walking has to be in Slow Mo XD

TMNT-Raph-fan In reply to TheCreativeSonicPega [2014-06-09 02:24:41 +0000 UTC]

By "stylized" I meant a cartoon depiction of the 2014 designs. The pictures I saw weren't chibi, just cute sketchy cartoons with Raph blushing at April and toddler Mikey asking Master Splinter about human female boobs as he had stumbled upon a naughty magazine.
I've had times when I inexplicably liked something, so I understand what you're getting at. Nothing wrong with liking something for the unknown reason.
And slow mo is a given.
The more I talk about this movie, the more I get excited about it. I just hope I don't hype myself up too much in case it's more of a let down. At the very least, I'll have a good laugh with my friends.
In other news, the designs for Shredder's armour have been brought out in better light since we last caught a glimpse of it in the second trailer. I have to say, the first thing I thought when I saw it was "overkill". He seems to have more blades protruding from his suit than all past Shredder's combined and, like the way I feel about Donnie's multiple gadgets, I think it's a bit unnecessary.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheCreativeSonicPega In reply to TMNT-Raph-fan [2014-06-21 01:47:18 +0000 UTC]

Oh yes, I don't like the whole X-men route their going with Shredder, his armor is badass but the claws are a bit much. As for Donnie, I don't mind, the best thing I like about his design are his glasses. I can relate, since I wear glasses myself and for the fact that I am a really big nerd XD As for the camera on his back, I think it's just a link of providing unavailable information to April, I actually made a joke to my friends that he uses the camera to go "ninja vlogging", in which he captures all the action and posts it on his Youtube channelΒ Β PS, I'm sorry for not responding sooner, there's just been a lot going on here on DA and in my personal life that I haven't had a lot of time.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TMNT-Raph-fan In reply to TheCreativeSonicPega [2014-06-30 16:28:24 +0000 UTC]

I don't mind Dons glasses either, and actually like to imagine him figuring out he needs glasses. (Like as a turtle tot, he was constantly running into things he didn't see properly.) But I think the goggles he has are more of Don's style, and having both is just unnecessary. Especially if he's going to put the goggles over his glasses. A lot of my friends where glasses and they get irritated when they have to put 3D glasses over their regular glasses. I can't imagine any of them wanting to put goggles over them.
As well, my friends and I recently came up with a theory, that Michael Bay seems to be trying to mirror their personalities onto their appearance. That upsets me a little because their personalities and character should be evident in their behavior. However, Mikey's outfit doesn't bother me as much as Don's gear, because it seems like something Mikey would wear. But I have recently discovered that Raph seems to have a very subtle cleft chin. Along with the occasional toothpick in his mouth and the sunglasses on his head, he looks very stereotypical tough guy. The toothpick and shades I can tolerate, but the cleft chin upset me and is only slightly tolerable due to it's small size. I just don't find it attractive, or see it as something a turtle would have. With the shades, if he does not actually wear them, I will deem then unnecessary, like some of Don's multiple head gear. We saw a picture of him wearing sunglasses with his disguise, but they're not the same ones from his head. I just want to see him wear them once.
And I didn't even know that was a camera on Don's back. He must be making home videos to show Master Splinter when they get back.
