Description
Here's some world building for the world of Smacky the Clown!Like some others before me, I have decided to treat clowns as a separate thing from "regular" human beings. Here, they are a subspecies of human scientifically classified as homo iocosus (lit. "jestful man"), whose general physical appearance bear striking similarities to what we would consider "clown-like" features, from their generally pale skin and vibrantly colored hair to their very prominent hands and feet. Yes, even the bulbous, brightly colored noses are natural. Another notable difference between clowns and humans is that their sclera, rather than being white or off-white like with homo sapiens, will be either a pastel shade of blue, green or yellow. Their irises however, are almost always a dark shade of brown, or even black. While clowns can be divided into races like humans, such differences are not easy to point out unless said clown possesses a special kind of vitiligo that causes them to develop blotches of melanin.
Physical appearance aside, clowns are also notably more durable and flexible on average than their rosier compatriots. Many of them are also notably stronger too, though on average they can run at just about the same speed as humans, if not slower due to their larger extremities. Apart from that, any other difference between homo sapiens and homo iocosus is more of a product of the society these creatures are governed by.
NOTE: Humans dressing up as clowns is not common, but can happen on occassion. It is not frowned upon as long as (a) it is done in a professional setting; and (b) said human possesses the necessary permits, training and credentials to do so. A human cosplaying as a clown is mostly harmless in this world, but will still make some uncomfortable. Some clown activists will make a stink about it though, even if actual clowns probably don't care that much.
