Description
The Moomin franchise has had quite an interesting history in the animated sector. And what better way to document that by having all the different versions of Moomintroll (that matter to me) interact? Yes, that will go along swimmingly.
From Left to Right, each Moomintroll comes from:
Mumin (1969) - The first anime adaptation infamous for some very radical departures from its source material, much to Tove Jansson's chagrin. Still, it helped put Moomins on the international map and set the groundwork for other animated adaptations to come, including:
Shin Mumin (1972) - The second anime adaptation which was more-or-less the opposite of its predecessor in every way. Where Moomin was more physical Japanese-style comedy and rambunctiousness, Shin Mumin was more cute and whimsical, and stepped much closer to the source material while still reinventing a few elements.
Moomin (1990) - The third, and possibly most famous of the four listed above, this was a joint production between Finland and Japan, and was even closer to its source material than its predecessors.
Moominvalley (2019) - The fourth animated series, this time handled by Finland (and maybe England). So far, it's shaping up to be EVEN MORE loyal to its source material, with a version of Snufkin and Little My much closer to their novel and comic strip selves.
