Thanks for the reply, I imagine the process is still somewhat similar though right? at least for sketching it out and adding more details? i was more curious about what point you use the photo textures though, and how you use them. are there any tutorials you could suggest for me for something like this? thanks again

Yes, actually everything you paint is about visualising your idea with art fundamentals. but for landscapes the lighting, composition and storytelling might be a bit more complicated.

for tutorials you may want to check out Eduardo Pena's videos, they helped me a lot in textures.

Also one more follow up question, where could I go to find some good photos and textures to use? Should I go searching for images, or are there websites that host these sort of things?

Most of my textures are from my own camera and cgtextures.com, you may want to check it out.

Wow this is some great insight for how to do these types of works. After a quick google search I found him working with FDZ Design and found some great video tutorials on this. So thanks again for being such a great help to me, I always find so much that I can learn from other artists ^^
