Description

The following information you are about to read will be erased from the memories of all but those who are pure in heart and trustworthy to safeguard these secrets.

Many people believe that a planet and a world are the same things. In some cases that is true, but not in others. In truth all planets hold many worlds. Some are different sizes so they can exist inside another world. Others are separated by dimensional barriers that require some form of magic or advanced technology to reach them. Earth has many worlds, but one in particular is known by all others as The Amazing World of Gumball, or Tawog for short. A world with joy, wonder, and amazement, Tawog is inhabited by many lifeforms, like all worlds. But unlike most other worlds, Tawog is not inhabited by one dominant species. All sentient beings in this world are either vegetable, animal, or mineral, with a very low population of humans. So collectively, the inhabitants of Tawog are referred to as Tawogians. Tawog’s existence is known by many beings from other worlds, most of who would gladly embrace its glorious wonder. But some would seek to destroy Tawog. Understanding why anyone would want to bring destruction to a wonderful world requires going back to the beginning.

My name is Devin. I am the Red Ranger and leader of the Power Rangers Pokéball team. I am also known in Tawog as Devin Watterson, but we will get back to that in a moment. I was born to one world, but my time as Red Ranger lead me to believe that I am destined to be involved with many. My homeworld would be considered a generic modern-day Earth, or at least it used to be. My world was destined to be fused into one with another universally famous world, the Pokémon world. The day this happened the best of two worlds was brought together, and some of the worst as well. That day also brought forth the most powerful of all evils, Dark-R, Lord of Darkness, Master of Fear, and Forger of Nightmares. Corrupting and mutating wild Pokémon into his Shadow Pokémon army, Dark-R’s conquest is to enslave my home world and plunge it into darkness, fear, and despair. But the day he came to power was also the day I, along with a group of individuals, was chosen by the Morphin Grid itself to become the new protector of my home world. My team, called the Power Rangers Pokéball, and I have been putting a stop to Dark-R’s evil ever since.

Many foiled plans to enslave my home world frustrated Dark-R greatly. He thought perhaps if he studied other worlds, he would gain the knowledge and inspiration needed to defeat my team and enslave our world. Dark-R’s dark power allows him to do just about anything. The only thing that hinders his abilities is the power of light. With the exception of our headquarters, Pokéball Center, which is cloaked in a barrier of light energy, Dark-R can, not only see through any cast shadows, but can also travel through them. It is because of this ability that Dark-R can observe other worlds. He studied many worlds until he came across Tawog. When he observed what this world had to offer, he was completely disgusted by it. He saw so much joy and light that Dark-R concluded Tawog must be destroyed. What he didn’t know was that I knew of Tawog, because in my home world it is an animated TV series, one which I really enjoy watching.

At the time I thought The Amazing World of Gumball was nothing more than a TV show. With this in mind, you may ask, how can a world be a TV show in another world? I have two theories. My first is, when someone creates an animated series, a movie, or even a novel, the worlds they take place in become real in another dimension. My second theory is just the opposite; that the world’s existence somehow inspires someone to create a story that tells what takes place in that world.

As for The Amazing World of Gumball, it revolves around a family of five known as the Wattersons. Richard Watterson is the husband and father whose greatest passions are eating, sleeping, and watching television. His low IQ comes from being raised by an overly protective mother. But what he lacks in brain cells he makes up for in his love for his family. Nicole Watterson, the mother and wife of this family is the ruler of the Watterson household. She works many hours at the Rainbow Factory to put food on the table. She possesses incredible strength, excellent fighting skills, and a dangerous fiery temper that can be fatal to those foolish enough to cross her. But she is also loving, loyal, and protective of her husband and children. Anais Watterson is the youngest of Richard and Nicole’s children. Despite being four years old, Anais has proven to be the smartest member of the family. Even her own mother comes to her for advice from time to time. She is also a fanatic of Daisy the Donkey and is often seen facepalming at the dimwitted actions of her older brothers. Darwin Watterson, the middle child, was once nothing more than a pet goldfish. But the day he developed lungs and sprouted legs he was declared an adopted child, fully belonging to the Watterson family and a boy with a heart of gold who always sees the bright side of things. And last but far from least is the member of the family who this show revolves around. Gumball Watterson, the oldest child, is a fun-loving boy who always hangs out with Darwin. Though he genuinely wants the best outcome in every situation, he frequently gets into all kinds of crazy trouble, and rarely learns his lesson. But he is a good boy for the most part, even if his slightly lower than average intelligence can get the better of him.

Sure, the Wattersons tend to argue and get into pretty bad situations, but they are truly a wonderful family, that from my personal view, is one all worlds need. But everything good I see in them, Dark-R sees the opposite. In fact, the Wattersons are the source of the greatest amount of joy and light Tawog has. And it is this very reason why Dark-R declared Tawog be terminated, starting with this family. Despite the happiness it brings me, and like every other human from my home world, I thought The Amazing World of Gumball was nothing more than a cartoon, that is until I was watching a rerun from season one. I don’t remember which episode it was, but I do know I saw something that wasn’t there before. My friends and family know me for many things, one of which is spotting minute detail others would easily miss, such as animation errors. It was this skill that allowed me to spot it hiding around the corner; a D-Pokébot, one of Dark-R’s many foot soldiers. When I brought this to the attention of Prof. Oak, the famous Pokémon professor and secretly the stationary ally to my team, we both agreed that this doesn’t only mean that Tawog exists, but it also means that the dark lord knows about it as well and is planning something bad.

Using the space and dimensional powers of my legendary Pokémon ally, Palkia, I was able to transport into Tawog just outside of Elmore, the hometown of the Wattersons. Prof. Oak and I discovered that Tawog itself constantly produces joyful energy with incredible capabilities. When harvested and made into a solid form, it has the power to change any being from other worlds into the form of a Tawogian. And considering that there are almost no humans in Tawog, it was perfect for protecting its inhabitants while maintaining a low profile. The professor and I got to work creating what I called a Tawog Bracelet and forging the joyful energy I collected into a Rainbow Charm which, when attached to the bracelet, would transform me into a Tawogian. I didn’t know what form I would take, but I didn’t hesitate. I attached the Rainbow Charm and was immediately transformed. I was shocked when I looked in the mirror. Apart from the red fur, blue hoodie, green hat, and pants, I looked just like Gumball Watterson. At first, I thought it was just a coincidence that this was my Tawogian form, but I would later discover that it was actually destiny.

When I arrived in Tawog in my new Tawogian form, I managed to sneak into Elmore Jr. High, the school that all three of the Watterson kids attend. Fortunately, and surprisingly at the same time, the staff saw me as just another student who attended the school. I found Gumball, Darwin, and Anais out on the basketball court and introduced myself. Seeing that no one in this world had ever seen me, I saw no reason not to tell them my real name. But just to be safe, I withheld my last name. At first, Gumball was suspicious of me, claiming I was doing a bad job of impersonating him. I can see why he thought that, but it wasn’t like I was trying to. The power of the Rainbow Charm doesn’t let you choose what Tawogian form you take. Thinking fast, I said to him that it’s not uncommon for one person to look similar to another, even if it’s just by shape. It took him a little time to process what I said, which is typical of him, before his suspicions disappeared. Having cleared that up, I told them that I lost my family years ago and have been surviving off the streets ever since. I took no pride in lying to these kids, but I had to maintain my cover, not only for my sake but for theirs as well. They felt very badly for me and came up with the idea of bringing me home to see if their parents would take me in as their own. I still felt bad about lying to them, but it gave me the result I needed.

When school let out, the Watterson kids took me to their home and introduced me to their father, Richard, and their mother, Nicole. They told their parents my story. Though they felt bad for me as well, the parents didn’t accept the proposal to take me in, but they didn’t exactly reject it either. Nicole said that adopting a child was a very big and important decision, especially went she was barely making enough to feed the mouths she already had. But at the same time, she didn’t want to just turn me away. She and Richard would have to think about it. Well actually, just Nicole would. I had made it this far, and my goal of protecting them in secret the best way possible rested on Nicole’s decision. But before anything else could be said, a loud commotion was heard outside. It was just as I feared. Dark-R finally made his move. A squadron of D-Pokébots was led by a newly formed Shadow Pokémon calling himself Biker Krookodile. He was undoubtingly a pure Krookodile after being corrupted by Dark-R to resemble the leader of a vicious biker gang. He gave the order to attack the people of Elmore. I tried to keep the Wattersons inside where it was safe, but before I could do much of anything, I found myself forced out the front door with them.

The situation was really bad. Elmore was under attack and I was the only Ranger around to fend it off, or so I thought. The same portal created by my old friend Palkia opened again. And this time, my team came running in, morphed into their Ranger uniforms, and started to fight off Dark-R’s troops. Prof. Oak must have told them where I went and what I was doing. I could tell that they were looking for me, their leader, while fighting the enemy. Before the Wattersons could ask “what the what” is going on, we found ourselves surrounded by D-Pokébots. My fellow Rangers were too busy fighting a mass of D-Pokébots to notice how much trouble we were in, so I was the only one to fight the hoard that broke away from the main infantry, but this left me with a very difficult decision. My control over fire was limited by my Tawog Bracelet for safety reasons. And though I still had my fighting skills, they’re not as effective against D-Pokébots and Shadow Pokémon in my Tawog form as they are in my human form. So my best option was to morph so I could protect the Wattersons. The problem with that is as a Ranger, I have to keep my identity a secret, otherwise, my outside friends would be in great danger. But I couldn’t just do nothing. The Wattersons were surrounded, and I had to do something to protect them.

Suddenly one of the D-Pokébots fired a laser from its crescent blade, which barely missed Nicole. At that moment, I made my decision and jumped to the front. As to be expected the Wattersons thought I was crazy to get in their way. I told them they would want an explanation for what they were about to see, and that I would gladly give it to them once the ordeal was over. I morphed into the Red Ranger right before their eyes. I could tell they were speechless even when busy making scrap metal out of the D-Pokébots. My team was surprised to see me appear out of the blue as well. We made short work of the D-Pokébots then defeated and purified Biker Krookodile. All of Elmore heard about the Rangers repelling the attackers and were grateful. The Wattersons were also grateful, but they were still confused about me. So was my team. Once things settled down, I explained to my team what I was doing. Then I told the Wattersons the truth, that I wasn’t really a red cat nor was I from this world. I told them about how we became Power Rangers, about Lord Dark-R, and why I really came to this world, to protect them from the dark lord who intends to destroy everyone in Tawog. When I finished, I assumed that I was an abomination to the Wattersons not only because I lied to them about losing my family, but also because of what I really was. I bid them farewell and proceeded to return home. But before I could get far, I was grabbed by my hood and pulled into a Watterson group hug. Nicole had made her decision. In gratitude for my actions and intentions, I was declared an honorary member of their family, along with my brother Adam and my sister Beki, and so we became part of a second family.

It’s been ten years since that day, and my team and I have been protecting the Wattersons as well as our home world from Dark-R’s evil ever since, and we have no intention of stopping. Tawog shall remain a joyful and wondrous world for many years to come. Happy 10th Anniversary to The Amazing World of Gumball!

(This drawing took longer that I thought it would, and yes I know we've passed the actually anniversary date, but it's better to have it late in the anniversary year than have it late in a later year.)
