I like really ! but I'm a scientist and when an asteroid pass through a meteor belt. this one make just a hole of her size. and do not make a flue (a sheaf) as if there was air or water that carries what it contains. here there are only the rules of gravitation to apply not the mechanics of the fluids.

I'm no scientist but I would have assumed that if a bigger rock goes through the rings, it would knock the ice and/or dust out of the rings, like a snooker (or pool) cue ball does to other balls. I would have assumed that since there is no air in space, nothing to cause frictional against the ice and/or dust, therefore no drag to slow it down, and that some of the ice and/or rings would just keep moving, unless affected by the gravitation pull of the planet. Thus there will be a hole, but the movement of the ice and/or rocks would make it look like a flue for a while, rather than leave itΒ looking likeΒ a paper with a bullet hole?

I thought the point of science is to think of any possibilities, put it into theory, carry out a test to confirm the theory, and record the result. So unless NASA had secretly built a big starship, used a tractor beam to shoot a big rock at Saturn's rings, and confirm if you or TobiasRoetsch is correct, as it stands, it is a nice science fiction image, worthy of a plot story for a sci-fi television show.

And like you, NetSeawolf, I too really like it.
