The moments you want to last forever are over as fast as the ISS see's the sun set and then rise again. It's the crap in between that drags on forever
The old and worn look of the spaceship interior gives this a kind of nostalgic feeling like this guy is returning to an old hangout spot from his youth in the same way we sometimes look back at those places we spent our off time in our childhoods (some of which were places we weren't supposed to be in)
