Because...
Its the epitome of death. (awesome details on the skull, the pink-ish glowing eye too)
Its BIG and furry. (its struckture is niiice... thoguh its tail seems a bit odd. oh, a beard. YES.)
It lives in a "cool" enivroment. (nice fading on the trees, gives the right focus. the lighting from the camera thowards it makes for the right shot - ya done good on that.)
If I were that kid... I'd try to climb it, or tame it or cuddle it or something - or watch it go with a face of awe... I might end up dead then though
