Thanks, it's Tofu`s original worck, link for line art. I just recolor it for her. It was looking pretty bad from the first version I did so I just changed the colors with curves and added a bit of more ambient and some minor details on the character's face makes a huge difference. Changed it recently...

I thought Tofu drew this/colored it since that is her line art! I was about to commend her on her new shading style, because the background and the shading is pretty good! I noticed that you like using orange as a shading undertone.

Well, for this picture, sharp brushes for the background would have taking away from the main character on the right, and since he has sharp line art to bring them out. I would say that this blend of blurry background is not so bad with the brushes.

I started with gray scales and it's something I would recommend you do, values, because it's much easier on landscape and things like rocks. Then I tried sticking with a color palette a chose this time sta.sh/01737acdwswu but I wasn't able to transpose it very well; I'm sure I could've done better but I was like: Meh! I'm going to work tomorrow! I still carried on blurring first, painting later as always and I did a video for that tobyfredson.deviantart.com/jou… . Ahh, my friend also does it the grayscale way. Both of us have a really hard time trying to pic out the values for it. My excuse is I'm kinda blind, so I don't know about her, but it does seem like a good way to get a feel of the landscape.
Oh, the palette is a good idea! I'm an idiot, so I just choose colors randomly on how I feel and once I'm done, I just adjust everything with Hue/Saturation... I don't know what you're talking about, I think the colors came out very nicely! I just wished you didn't use my original colors for the guy since my colors choices are so bright and clashes with everything. xD I would've liked to see how you chose the colors for him. Either way, your pic came out pretty excellent!

Thats interesting, its true that i find it easier to adjust light with grays and whites, but how do you color it with a layer on top? I am familiar with how layers work in photoshop but dont know all the tricks.
