Been doing loads of 3D lately so took some time today to play around with 2D for a change. I was thinking this guy is some kind of space explorer and he's taking geological readings of a strange moon-like object hovering close to the planet's surface. You've no idea how much inspiration that fills me with, I love the piece.
It's simple, chromatically at least, dominated by dark tones and accented by bright one. It gives it such a canvas like quality as you've created such an inspiring piece. I love the feel of the character as well their pose suggests such intricacy of intent, practically mystical, yet bearing such weight of information, not overly nebulous. As far as manifesting the inspiration the intricay is qualified so greatly by the majestic, yet gargantuan planet in the distance, his almost desolate surroundings give the impression of supercession of one's circumstances, and the planet gives us a representation of the stars. It straddles the line between the distant stars and an imminent reach, it strikes a hopeful chord with it's juxtaposition. Ah yes and did I mention the title? It encapsulates the feeling I'm being afforded perfectly.
