Welcome to the club.  It's sad yet true that when you play as a hyena in that game, you'll more then likely to be attacked by lions.  As I read from CrazyCrocuta , they are right.  Its mainly a bunch of snot nosed little brats playing that game who base their ill mannered knowledge on crap from The Lion King.
Depending on what map you play the most in, you have to be weary.  The Bonfire Lions are just ill mannered pieces of shit most the time.  I hate having to deal with them, half the time I go just for shits and giggles cuz they are so stupid.  The plains however is also home to some pretty arrogant assholes.  Prides that reside there can be formed of more mature kids, but they are still dicks.

Just keep an eye out.  They aren't all that kind where ever you go in that game.

(Long post is long.  I get what you mean though.  I've had MANY horrid encounters with lions in the game.)

FeralHeart is pretty much full of asshole kids who know nothing on hyenas and take their "facts" from the Lion King. They attack any hyena that comes near and I've even seen them go after groups JUST BECAUSE they were hyenas. I think I'm one of the lucky few that have only two bad experiences. Frustratingly, they think they "own" Bonfire Island and it belongs to the lions.
