Description
Finally, it's complete!I apologise for the large file size. It became very long, because I kept thinking of more details that I thought I should mention...
This tutorial assumes that you know how to use a sewing machine and an iron. If I went into the details of those, the tutorial would have gone on forever...
If you have any questions, or if I haven't been clear about anything in the tutorial, please let me know! I'd love to help you out!
EDIT:
I'll be making another Matt vest for a friend of mine, so I'll be making a tutorial for that as well! It might take some time though, so please be patient!
EDIT: (09/01/08)
Wow.. 1000 views! Thanks everyone! I hope this tutorial has helped you all with your cosplay projects~! ^^

I'm hoping to have a Matt cosplay, actually, but I want to make most of it myself. Just about everywhere else has all this cutting and nonsense, but this is clear and simple. Thanks!
Looking forward to the vest, since I need a bit of help on that, too!

great tutorial very helpful. i just have one question
so i get the "lines" i just am wondering about the very bottoms of the pants and what alterations are done there.

TofuAlchemist In reply to i-am-mitsuki [2010-07-20 17:36:13 +0000 UTC]
I'm not sure what you mean exactly, but as far as I remember I didn't do any extra alterations to the bottom hem of the pant legs.
If you're asking something like.. how to make the bottom hems look natural even with the lines you've sewn in, I fiddled around with the spacing of the lines until it looked right to me. If you're going to have Matt's boots anyways, this is less important
If I've completely missed the question, please just ask me again
I'd like to help you out!

Thank you for posting this! Whenever I try and find decent matt vest, the pants are fake and weird looking. My friend and I are trying to be Matt and Mello for some con in the future and even make a webshow so this is a great help. Your pants turned out wonderful!

TofuAlchemist In reply to liveswithwolves [2009-12-28 06:30:04 +0000 UTC]
Ah.. I'm not sure how to explain..
What you want at the very end is to have little folds sewn into place around the legs. So, starting from the bottom, you can tuck the bottom edge of the pant leg up into the pant leg, pin it in place in this folded position, then sew along the fold line (2/8" away from the fold). Picture 8 is actually not very good for explaining the position it's folded and pinned in.. If you look at picture 6a: You see how the bottom hem of the pant leg is folded up inside? It looks more like that, except that you will pin the fold into place, and sew along the fold. You can't sew straight across, you'll have to sew around (like a circle?) around the fold in the pant leg.
Does this make any more sense?

Lucky for you, I was working on another pair today for a friend of mine, so I took a few more pictures. Here's some of the way you fold and pin it:

And here's a couple of the position you sew it in:

Does that help? Also, let me know if the links don't work.. technology and I haven't been getting along lately

T^T You're so awesome..! they look so perfect.
I did my own pants for a Matt cosplay to the Mall, lets just say My fingers weren't good for a whole week after wards.. denim ruins my fingers and so does sewing, but I think I did good enough, but I wish they had come out like those ones. They look a lot better. My Pants were also way too light. (Not planned for cosplay) They were my only blue jeans.
Well.. do you do Commissions..? I would buy the pants and the thread plus pay you if I had to. xx; I hate sewing jeans, I really do and My friend kinda.. Gave out on me. I just want to try asking someone, and your's are the best by far.. just a shot..

TofuAlchemist In reply to I-CosplayTM [2009-06-17 21:29:53 +0000 UTC]
Sorry dearie, I don't really have the free time to do a commission for you..
If you have access to a sewing machine, I would definitely recommend using that rather than doing it all by hand. If you have to do it by hand, rubber thimbles (which you can get at any fabric store, or Walmart) will save you a lot of pain.
Sorry I couldn't be of much help.. Best of luck!
