So far I only have Conquest and I just recently got Birthright! But I'm on chapter 20 of Conquest (FUCKING WIND-TRIBE LEVEL- I GOT SO FAR AND XANDER DIED AND I WAS LIKE "NOPE." AND RESTARTED IT-) How far are you???

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA OH MAN. CONQUEST MAPS ARE SO FUCKING HARD. I BEAT THE GAME THOUGH. I GAVE UP AROUND 25 AND JUST WENT FUCK IT, CHANGES THE LEVEL FROM CLASSIC TO CASUAL AND THEN HARD TO NORMAL 'CAUSE I WANTED TO FINISH IT FOR THE STORY.

I also really don't like how in Birthright, they treat Nohr as so ugly. Like, they really make Hoshido out to be so amazing and great and perfect, and like, I understand yeah, it really is better that Nohr? And if you play Birthright first you don't know the Nohrian siblings are trying to fix everything behind the scenes? But I really don't like how in Conquest your MU is constantly regretting their decision, and yet in Birthright, they're having the time of their life-Β

Yeah, I'm not gonna lie. I don't like the Birthright family. They're pretty much all about glory and honor. Even in Conquest, it didn't feel like they wanted me because they actually loved me (except probably Hinoka) but because it was kind of spitting on their image that I joined Nohr. Soo.....that being said I don't really enjoy Birthright's story all that much, but I do admit the writing is better than Conquest's. And yeah, MU is pretty damn annoying in Conquest. They're a lot better in Birthright, but at the expense at having crappier siblings. LOL
Birthright does do a good job at making you feel bad for the Nohr siblings though, so stick around for that.Β

Okay true though- Like, I understand Conquest is the darker game but like- the Nohr siblings aren't BAD people, they're trying their best because their hands are tied so badly, Their 'father' will LITERALLY KILL THEM. Their trying their very best. And like- in both games it makes them look weak?? And yeah I don't know what the Hoshido family was trying to accomplish by like trying to attack you and kill you and your family in Conquest like omg chill guys- In Conquest it's just a bunch of 'go do this and do that' random missions not really leading to any plot or story, whilst in Birthright I feel like each mission is a part of the story, there's nothing salted in. You're always on the path towards Nohr, while in Conquest, it's "Whelp, gotta do this for dad! Again." And I understand yeah, those missions are important in the fact that they lead the MU to seeing how fucked up your father and Hans really are, but you also didn't need that many extra stuff on the main story path?? Just let me head to Hoshido??Β
Also, something I didn't like in both games, was the death of Lilith.Β
TBH, I wasn't affected by it that much. My friend spoiled a bit of a DLC in saying how she's related to you in some way, but like, in the game?? Lilith was just living in my castle. Like, yeah, I felt bad, but I wasn't drawn to tears as I was for Ryoma or Takumi. There was no connection made with her, no deep connection. Like, yeah she was a servant to you as we know, she was like your stable girl. But as the player with not much background context, losing her wasn't big for me. It didn't make me cry and leave me shaking for 3 hours after Ryoma, or like sobbing my eyes out for Takumi. I'm not saying to make her a major character, but even fighting Keaton in Birthright made me feel AWFUL because I had the context for him from Conquest. When I fought Kaden in Conquest, I didn't feel too much. I felt BAD for the Kitsune, but not awful.Β
I also don't like how like- Flora and Felicia in either game are just like "HEY HOWDY HO WHAT'S UP I FOUND YOU I'M JOINING YOU NOW!" Like... Okay, that's a bit anti-climatic?? Like, no cutscene or anything, just 'What's up!'.Β
I mean, I love these games, I really do. I'm not someone who hates them, I'm having fun with them! I just finished the Keaton chapter in Birthright, and I'm gonna get Caeldori and Kiragi before moving on. I just- idk, a lot of things could've been fixed, or making two games was a very risky move. I mean, I like how we get to see two sides of the same war, that's interesting to me. I just don't like how they did it, or things could have been fixed or done waaaaay better.Β

Hmm...I actually didn't feel that the Nohr siblings were portrayed as weak in both games. I understood that Conquest was meant to show you how they were reforming from the inside and secretly going against their father, so that makes me like them a lot. I honestly have no good traits to list for the Hoshido family because they're just so static. The only one that really has some internal issues going on is Takumi, and we know what happens to him. But other than that, the Hoshido family is so boring compared to the Nohr family.
Yeah...that was my main thing against Conquest. It was just a bunch of useless jobs until Azura finally gets the plot moving. And in both games, it's a bit weird how Azura is never open to you while you spill all your secrets to her. ALSO, IAGO IS PRETTY MUCH THE MAIN VILLAIN IN BOTH GAMES. HE'S JUST ALWAYS THROWING SHIT YOUR WAY.
Oooh Lilith's death. I actually didn't see it coming the first time, so I was pretty surprised and sad about it. But after playing Birthright, I knew it was coming because the games mirror each other. Yeah, both games had lazy writing. I was expecting so much since they hired an actual story writer this time, but it was really pointless. Both games are essentially telling you to play the third route.
I felt really bad when I had to murder Kaden in Conquest! I'm pretty sure the army committed fox genocide while trying to get into Hoshido. I didn't feel as bad for Keaton, probably because MU wasn't as sad about it and didn't really dwell on it, but the way the dialogue was presented after the battle with Kaden, it seemed like we wiped out an entire race. LOL
Jakob replaces Felicia's random joining when you play as a male, but YEAH. I REALLY HATE HOW FLORA JOINS IN CONQUEST. YOU COULD'VE JOINED AFTER CHAPTER 8, WHY DID YOU WAIT UNTIL I UPGRADED MY MAGIC TURRET. AND IZANA TOO. WHAT THE HELL MAN, I KNOW YOU'RE JUST HERE FOR THE FUCKING BATHHOUSE, GET OUT. WE'RE TRYING TO FIGHT A WAR.
Gahhhh, there's just so many issues I have with these games. I really want to like these games, since I love Fire Emblem as a series, but the writing for both stories is so lazy I didn't even bother reading the text when I was playing Birthright because I knew where it was heading based on how Conquest was going. I'm going to start on Revelations soon, and I really hope it's completely different from these two in terms of writing because Birthright and Conquest felt like fill-in-the-blanks. I just hope in the future they don't split up the games again.Β
