Thank you very much. It is rather Alice in Wonderland-like in some areas- especially the chessboard lawn.

Thank you. There have been various interpretations of this lyric by Jon Anderson. I tried different approaches but ultimately decided to paint a literal shining, flying, purple wolfhound as the best image. It's simple and whimsical. Yes has inspired more of my paintings than any other group by far.

They were a near-perfect group, so that is definitely understandable! I read an interpretation somewhere that explains it's a reference to the 27th Infantry Regiment used in Vietnam, called the Wolfhounds. It seems like it's essentially an ethereal, spiritual portraiture of the ongoing wrongdoings of man, in this case being the atrocities committed by the American government against the people of Vietnam. Nevertheless, your paintings are mind-blowingly amazing, and I hope to eventually see more new additions to your library!

Thank you very much. It took almost 6 weeks to paint. I always start out slowly, painting 2 or 3 hours, then after a week or so I put in 4 -6 hour days. In the later weeks I paint 8 to as much as 12 hours or more.

i love the recurring themes in your work; the topiaries, the depth, pathways leading the viewer into another realm.... the beautiful lighting effects you seem to have mastered so well. but there is definitely something with this one that speaks volumes (at least to me) of other themes.... the chess board, the bottled ship on a journey to god-knows-where, the soldiers returning to war even after they have fallen.... as bob dylan once said, "we're all only pawns in their game"

Thank you. Much of the imagery was inspired by the lyrics of the songs from 'The Yes Album'. as I paint, I do try to tie the imagery in to a common theme.

That was a colored pencil drawing I made a while back.
I painted a smaller version of it in "Homage".
For years I thought Jon Anderson was singing "bottleships confide in me and tell me where you are" before I read the lyrics and it was actually "battleships", not "bottleships".
Still, I think it goes with the lyrics "on a sailing ship to nowhere, leaving anyplace".

I did not have so much time to really enjoy your painting as i usually do.
I listened to the lyrics you mentioned from 'Yours is no Disgrace' today, i liked this song.
I should get a moment to find and understand all the songs references you painted and also watch more carefully the drawings you shared with me earlier this month, i did not forget.
+Title is nicely chosen, fews days before you released your painting i was relistening to 'Euporie Tide' album from Causa Sui, there is one track called 'Homage 'in it, this song bring me back good memories. I will listen to this song again and watch your painting at the same time too.

Hi. I didn't know you were on DeviantArt, Achille. How have you been?
"Yours is No Disgrace" is my favorite song on 'The Yes Album'. "I've Seen All Good People" was on the radio back in the 1970's and is one of Yes' more well known songs. Personally, I don't like that song as much as the other songs on the album.
I'll listen to the Causa Sui album you mentioned.

I mainly go on this website to watch paintings and collages since a long time. I created a deviant account last year but i am not very active on it.
I really discovered Yes when i was in Finland, before it, i just listened to popular tracks on youtube from them.
My alternative father was born at the same period as yours and also grew up into rock prog, psyche music, like many people in this period i guess.
He had an important collection of various music in a room and there was a signed poster by Rick Wakeman and Jon Anderson on the wall when he had the opportunity to see them in 1980 in Glasgow, during their Drama Tour.
I learned a lot about 60's/70's with him, the roots of prog music, psychedelic, krautrock.. and still i have to.
I just realized you uploaded this painting, the day of his pass, that's funny coincidence with the title too.
If you enjoyed the track i shared with you fews weeks ago, you'll probably like the 'old style' Causa Sui with this album.
As a chess player i enjoy the chessboard part of the painting despite how bad this game is going, white queen seems afraid of that black horse, she shouldn't, next move she takes it. But everything is good on this painting. I feel like watching all the seasons from left to the right with the colors and what you represented on the canvas, the birth with spring way to go to the death with the winter, the unknown path between the death and the infinite everything with the ruins, i like that spaceship to take human being to new places and start a new cycle.. I could go on and on about my thoughts with this painting.
What's the meaning of these 6 skeletons, only 5 seems to look at this grey man and who are the people above the angel and bird plants? members of Yes Band? The time part on the right, there is some mysteries with the time itself and that picture frame laid on the flowered pillar, i like it.
I will never stop thinking that you are on the way to see the art world and mostly surrealism movement remember you as a great traditionnal surrealist painter from XXIe who inspired and will keep inspiring people who have a chance to express themselves with art for the 'future'.
Will try to speak with you asap.

Hi, Achille. The WWI gasmask soldier and skeletons are inspired by lyrics from "Yours is No Disgrace"-"calling out of dirty holes...", "mutilated armies scattered the earth", "Silly human race"- I always interpreted this as reference to the futility of war.
The small group of people in the middle far right is in reference to "the proud sons and daughters who knew the knowledge of the land..." from "Starship Trooper".
The angel statue and furniture covered in vines and several time references have to do with "Perpetual Change" as well.
Thank you as always for your encouragement in the art world. I really appreciate it, Achille.

So much life, so much death, so much transition! ...Is "transition" the piece's overall theme?
Also, it kind of looks like the white queen is frowning at the black knight...

Yes, the White Queen is wary. If you read the lyrics to the songs from 'The Yes Album' I think it'll explain a lot of the imagery. Yes, it is about life, death transition as much of my work is. "Perpetual Change".

I'm sure you can guess my favourite parts! I love love LOVE the maze and chess pieces! And I also love the time pieces, the clock, sundial and hourglass (remind me of the Chimera paintings).
I must listen to more Yes albums (to understand more of the references in your paintings). I think M has most of them. I tend to hear Jon Anderson on other albums, as a guest artist on 'Kitaro' and 'Gandalf' albums, and on the 'Legend' soundtrack (which is the very first time I heard his unique voice).

Thank you, Tara. I like early Yes the best when their music was more eccentric and Jon Anderson's stream of consciousness lyrics were a bit more surreal and evocative.
He still has a great voice. He had a serious throat problem about 10 years ago but it was treated successfully. There's a fairly recent recording (2013) of him singing "Awaken" with orchestral accompaniment in Iceland. You should check it out on YouTube sometime. To me, "Awaken" was the last truly great song by Yes. It's quite beautiful.
It's from their 'Going for the One 'album. After that, Yes became a little too mainstream for my tastes.

Yes, M mentioned about his throat problem. Glad that it was successfully treated. His voice is too unique to be lost forever. That "Awaken" video was beautiful. I've listened to it a couple of times since you mentioned it. I also meant to say that I knew him from guesting with Vangelis. M is a huge Vangelis fan and I must admit I recognise his music within a few moments. He has a very distinctive style. Jon seems to guest with a lot of great artists.

My brother and I had a few Vangelis record albums too, along with the Jon Anderson/Vangelis album.
Like most people, we don't have a record player anymore but vinyl records are making a bit of a comeback.

We still have a record player but M needs to fix some output thingie. So though we have a lot of records we can't play them.
