Oil on canvas. 16"x20".This is the first of four season-themed shadow box paintings that I'll be doing throughout the year.

I love the great detail in all your piece at and how there is so much to look at and absorb. Everything flows together so wonderfully and creates a serene environment for your imagination to play in. I love the shadow box idea in nature. I can keep looking and keep finding new things each time. Very fun. Wonderful, wonderful work!

Thank you very much! I Painted a couple of shadow box paintings a few years ago. It's a surrealist motif. The surrealists were partially responsible for the invention of the shadow box.
Eventually, I came up with the season-themed shadow box idea. My work tends to be season-themed, anyway.
They were enjoyable to do.

Thanks. I intended this to be art about art in a way- nature and the seasons.
Β However, you could also interpret it as a collection of portals in a garden that you could live in or visit.Β

Thank you. I believe it was the surrealists who invented the shadow box or at least expanded on the concept. I thought giving them a seasonal theme might be interesting, especially since my work tends to be seasonal, anyway.

Thank you. This was an idea I formulated a couple of years ago that I'm finally getting around to painting. I'll be painting "Summer Shadow Box" in June.Β It will be a beach scene.

Thank you! I have a thing for tunnels, arches and caves. They're like portals to who knows where. They're also a good way for a small stream or path to enter into a painting.
