Description
KodachromeYou give us those nice bright colors
You give us the greens of summers
Makes you think all the world's a sunny day, oh yeah!
I got a Nikon camera
I love to take a photograph
So Mama, don't take my Kodachrome away
In spite of Paul Simon's pleadings Mama did in fact take our Kodachrome away. Thanks for trying though Paul. A most worthy effort!
Brian and Chris photographed poolside in Malibu by Tom Clark. This was shot on Kodachrome 64 with my Nikkor 105 1.8 mounted on my Nikon F3. Hand metered with a Gossen UltraPro - manual settings on the camera. Scanned directly from the original transparency at 600 dpi and 48 bit depth. No photoshop manipulation of any kind - straight outta the can so that you can see for yourself just how luscious Kodachrome is. It's gone, no longer made, but for many of us it will live on forever in the images we crafted with it.
The world of photography has changed. For me personally the transition from film to digital is as significant as the shift from pre-internet to internet. I'm committed to staying in harmony with the nature and reality of an evolutionary world. With or without my consent or cooperation our planet continues to evolve and I think I'm better served by making peace with that fact rather than being dragged along kicking and screaming.
I have enough images shot on Kodachrome to keep me or an assistant busy scanning for the rest of my days and then some. Perhaps that's enough...

Spending the afternoon in the sun with your mate; beautiful. I feel at peace just looking at it.

Thank you. I get that same peaceful feeling from it. We'd been shooting all day and the guys were enjoying some quiet time.

"...rather than being dragged along kicking and screaming."
LOL! While I agree in principle, I do think there are some things worth kicking and screaming about. Kodachrome may just have been one of them.
Beautiful image. I forget what amazing depth of color was possible with Kodachrome.

It really is amazing to dig around like this and find these gems. They take us somewhere with regards to color that digital can't do. I'm not complaining - it's just the way it is. I'm glad I shot Kodachrome while it was available because now I have some real special images to add to my current collections.

Oh, that ship left the port along time ago for me. I might have an old roll of Kodachrome hiding somewhere in a box. But I haven't bought or shot any for ages. It's no longer made and there is no one left to process it.

I thought so; but I know some have hoarded a load

I understand that in Europe they're playing with some kind of alternative processing technique??? I read about Kodachrome at length the other day as I was scanning a lot of Kodachrome transparencies but I don't recall the specifics about the alternative processing. Nonetheless, it's likely that anything Kodachrome is going to be uber expensive and something the hobbyists or specialists are more likely to get involved in. Younger photographers who came of age in the digital era will likely not care much - the expense and time and effort will probably seem absurd to many of them.
