Description
This is a "case study" so you can see what its like to be a character designer on a TV show. This is an incidental character from the bible based show I'm working on called "Superbook". In the script, the story called for a "dancing girl" (obviously, a temptress) for a short scene. I did the one on the far left first. Over a few months (and while I was doing other stuff too), I would get notes on things to tweak on her as different directors/executives/production people would put in their two cents. In the end, someone said, "Oh, and she should be greek so we need a completely new version (I kept the face and general body shape though)! These things happen and I can't complain too much because I like BOTH of the last two versions so at least she's not ruined. This will now go off and get modeled by a CG animation house in China, then back to me for notes. All for a small character in one show. Still, worth it.Related content

tell me about it.....it took me about five years of redesigning to get the current image of three of my characters now

It's so common, I don't even notice it anymore x_x
That's also why I'm never attached to a character-design until it's approved.
Right now I'm working on a game that hasn't even a finished briefing, but I have to start working already. Uh. Wait what?

man I can't believe they actually wait till the last moment to tell you that! and you have to put up with it? that's not fair!
don't get me wrong the design is pretty cool and for someone who enjoys drawing this means no problem, but still

"fair" doesn't exist in animation production, but I get what you mean.

Always nice to see the evolution of a character's design!
I like the first one's hair and skin, and the "Greek" outfit you chose; I wonder how they'd look like together. Still, she looks great in the final version!

and so, in the end didn't you have to rechange her hairstyle in order to make it more anime?

Is she volved in the death of John the baptist? I am trying to remember how many references to dancing there are in the bible.

I love seeing the progression of a design over time. I myself usually get annoyed with tweaking only minor things and usually overhaul the whole thing whenever I'm drawing. Looks good!

Did the script call for a Greek girl originally or was that a last minute change?
Seems like a big change but not surprising considering industry stories I hear.
I like the hair on the first one but overall the third one the best. But that's just me.

No, it was not a specific race to begin with, but an after thought.

The things you have to put up with. However with me and my line of work engineers are my best friend.....every time they open their mouths I make more money.
