Description
I've been digging through some old files recently and found this Kim Possible 1 page gag I did years ago for Disney Adventures magazine (RIP). I think this was the first Kim Possible comic I did for them (I ended up doing about 4 or so) and I was disappointed when the script showed up and it was all about the dumb mole rat! Kim is in one panel! At any rate, it was about the mole rat having a dream about swimming in a nacho cheese river, so I thought it would be clever to have the second (inset) panel in the shape of a nacho chip. I'm sure I was the only one that knew that's what that odd shape was! Clever. Here's the inks by Howard Shum: [link]

But...the mole rat is so cute! I also like your storytelling, the actions are very clear and keep the eye moving through the page quite well. I was very confused about the second panel until I read the description - and that was a NICE touch (as are the nacho trees in the background in panel 1). Is there a reason why the format is so squarish? Was that due to the amount of space given in the magazine. O.o
My only critique (if I may be so bold) is panel 6. Love the image! I just wish it was switched around...I feel like it would lead the eye into the next panel a little better. Plus, your eye wouldn't dwell on it so long because it goes against how the reader reads the page. But maybe that was your intent.
But you have beautiful line weight, great compositions, and capture the essence of the characters perfectly, as usual.

AHAHA! "I was disappointed when the script showed up and it was all about the dumb mole rat!" I would have been too. He was my least favorite character.

Cool! I didn't know you had also worked on the Kim Possible comics. You did an incredible job. Did you ever work on the TV shows, though? Because if you didn't, you're REALLY good at imitating different styles.

Nope, never worked on the show. This style is not a huge stretch for me.

Clever. Very Clever. It looks just like the show. We never got the Disney Adventures magazine in the UK. We got Disney and Me which was a preschool puzzle magazine (still going) and a magazine called Disney's Big Time, which was mostly movie reviews and pop band interviews. It did have 3 pages of comics though.

Can you give us any insight as to why Disney is so sluggish or downright hostile to comic books based on their original TV show properties? The stuff that ties into older material gets a fair shake, but nothing created in the '90's or later gets a chance. For instance Gargoyles or the recent BOOM comics implosion (though that was probably more about Disney taking things back over to hand off to Marvel who they recently purchased).
Take Kim Possible. This was a show with an enormous, multi-generational fanbase. There was no way a comic based on the property wouldn't sell like hotcakes, yet the only comic related material was bits and pieces in a magazine that Disney closed down before the show even ended (I think).

Almost every KP comic DA ever printed revolved around Rufus, actually. This was the point when their comics lost a lot of meat and became four pages per story at the most.
