They meet while Yusuke’s dead. Botan thinks there’s been another mix up since he’s not on her deceased list. Then Danny transforms, immediately pissing off and making Yusuke jealous. Danny can see and communicate with them even in human form, so it makes it a lot easier to convey messages to the living. Kuwabara is convinced Danny’s a medium or something (at first) since he can sense ghosts even better than he can.

Spirit World doesn’t really know how to handle or categorize Danny, so for now, they’re treating him as half-youkai and keeping him under surveillance.

Yusuke finally comes back to class around the time Danny is enrolled. Yusuke and Kuwabara latch onto him and absorb him into their friend group.

The class isn’t sure if Danny is friends with them or being bullied. He doesn’t want to hang with them, but he’s not scared of them either. Whatever the case, the rest of the class has decided to give him a wide berth, so now Danny can be unpopular in two countries!

Dragging Danny to Genkai’s student selection makes it SOOO much easier to find Rando. After the contestants are thinned out, Yusuke can just drag Danny around everyone until his ghost sense goes off. Danny just wants to go home...
