That's quite the sweet scene :3
I think your experiment with the shading turned out quite well, the little highlights from the moon light accent the characters well.
And the deep shading corresponds well with the nighttime scene. The sky is quite pretty and the tree looks good in my opinion.
The expression of the characters is really lovely and the eyes shine brilliantly against the dark background. Oh, and the textures on the skin add some nice depth.
