I remember having an interest in the place after some horror movie was made using it as a set. I wanted to learn more about it and I was under the impression it was supposed to have been torn down. I'm glad the people who loved the place managed to save it.

Well, the City taxed into bankruptcy the one guy who loved it and wanted to restore it. He bought it for $75,000 and they decided to tax him at a rate of $75,000 per year. Then, after it lay abandoned for almost 15 years, they then sold it to the current owners (a preservation corporation) for $1, but sole salvage rights to another company for $100,000. They got the $1 from the concerned citizens, but never got a dime from the thief who stripped all the original art deco decorations (and all the copper) and sold it off.
Damned Democrats!! Buffalo (and Erie County) government is as corrupt as any in the USA.
