Description
The Free State has a population of 2,745,590 according to the 2011 census. The four most cmoon languages were:SeSotho 1,717,881 (64.20%)
Afrikaans 340,490 (12.72%)
IsiXhosa 201,145 (7.52%)
Setswana140,228 (5.24%)
While SeSotho and Afrikaans are spread relatively evenly across the province, IsiXhosa speakers can be found mainly in the southern part of the province. SeTswana speakers on the other hand are concentrated chiefly in the northwest of the province, namely the Boshof district, while IsiZulu speakers are found in the east, namely the districts of Vrede and Harrismith
