Beautiful. Our magpies in Australia are quite different in coloring - black & white but still very handsome.

Nanoscale things in the feathers give iridescence, it's pretty neat. Starlings and pigeons have some too.

Ooooh, magpies are definitely difficult to photograph so I'm thrilled you managed to snap one... and so cleanly too. One of my favourite common birds, especially with their distinctive.. call, sounds almost like a laugh. Great work, I'm pretty sure you had to go through several frames to finally get one you were happy with, right?

They are realy very high-intelligence, more intelligence then a cat, a dog or a human 4 yo child. Only animals with much bigger brains can self-recognition in the mirror, humans-apes, dolphins, elephants...
