An illustration for the upcoming BLACK INK HORROR #1. This one is for the story "Alison's Garden" which, although quite nasty and graphic, was strangely sad and poignant. Although there were many scenes in it that I could have exploited visually, I went for something a little more subtle (yes, believe it or not, this could have been much worse). I've been working really hard on making the compositions more interesting, hence the use of the hand in the extreme foreground and the positioning of poor Alison in the background. I hope it worked.Pen and ink--about 20 hours.

The hand looks that connected to poor Alison so there seems no doubt about who has done this to her. The only uncertainity is the identity of the culprit but that adds certainly to the degree of horror of the picture.

this is gorgeous, tom! i love the use of perspective with the hand in the foreground (that's one of my favorite things to do!) i also love the contrast of gore and the strange peaceful look on her face, it completely epidomizes the 'sadness' you mentioned in your description. great work!
