Description
At the time of writing, this represents a hypothetical one-size-fits-all integument that would be technically accurate for everything from Yutyrannus to Tyrannosaurus, but note that I would not consider this the most likely scenario for either. It is likely however that an animal intermediate between the two (such as the Appalachiosaurus pictured) would possess a transitional covering as shown.Additional note: the scales on the illustration have been exaggerated on the areas they are preserved to denote their presence. In reality, the reticulae are so tiny they'd be indescribable from this distance.

Well I do not blame him. These skin impressions were found kinda recently and it will certainly take some time until they make it to a scientific study

Detrich was not found recently. But there are more integuments coming.Β

Fantastic! I feel like most, if not all, tyrannosaurs had some kind of feathering, be it very sparse like the hairs of an elephant or a heavier coat (Nanuqsaurus must have had feathers, I can't imagine a scaly animal in those frigid conditions)

nice thing pointing out that Tyrannosaurs didn't just have been completely covered by feathers nor scales, but these Tyrannosaurs had both feathers and scales.

Honestly I think it is most likely that basal tyrannosauroids were completely covered in feathers and tyrannosaurids were completely covered in scales, but there had to have been a transition point somewhere.

You are making a chimera out of not so closely related tyrannosaroids

You should use members of the Tyrannosauridae family for phylogenetic bracketing, since we have data from the closest relatives of t.rex

Note that the animal depicted is Appalachiosaurus, which is not in the Tyrannosauridae.

He has used that data. But that data left many gaps, which were filled by more basal tyrannosauroids.

No mention of the Daspletosaur specimen, though? Did they ever figure out if it had lips or not, no ones really settled that issue.

GREAT!
We need to stop this war of feathers vs scales.
Clearly the late cretaceous Tyrannosaurs had most of their bodies with scales...BUT...not all of the body was scaled until the palentologists found more evidence of that.

Dafuq?
Giganotosaurus it's a Allosaurid
Yutyrannus it's a Proceratosaurid/Tyrannosaur
The Carcharodontosaur's family only have the evidence of Concavenator with feathers.
