I met Joe at Comics Launchpad in June and had be itching to have a run at inking one of his pages ever since - so he kindly sent me this to have a crack at. I'm still noodling around with this, pushing how far a 'finishes' gig could go (under the expert supervision of James Hodgkins!) so I might have another version to put up soon. We'll see I guess.
This was a pretty quick gig, a few hours with 90% or so #3 brush, the template work and bit of texture was quill/markers.

Thanks bud - I think I've worn out my ellipse template set from having sat working out receding them into perspective lol! I'm pretty sure the sword was supposed to be a tanto, but I thought it would look better if I stretched it out to be a bit more of a katana. It did mean however wrestling with a flex-curve. Man, I hate those things!

I have one and I've never used it. I manage with rulers and french curves... I find it amazing how ellipse templates seem to disintegrate over time...one day they just kind of shatter...

I 'treated' myself about 2 years ago to a full set of ellipse templates for Christmas - 15 degrees through to 60 I think in 5 degree intervals. Super useful but, again like most inkers tools, a bit of an investment! I haven't had any break yet but I did make the mistake once or twice of trying to use them as a straight edge... such a bad idea... lol

I got my 4th template last year... I have NO CLUE how I've managed this long with 4 templates...
