All, I really think when he said he didn't like the colour, he was referring to the TARDIS interior. As commonly seen in other regenerations, he has post-regeneration ADHD and jumps topics in a split second. If you watch the scene closely, after he mentions new kidneys, he looks up and around the TARDIS right before he says "...don't quite like the colour." Now, look at the S8 previews, the TARDIS interior now has a new colour.
