Description
This once proud EMD F7 (I think) has been reduced to a mere billboard parked next to a building in downtown Yakima, WA.Related content

Oh, it is an F7 BTW, an F9 would have had an additional grill in front of the front porthole. Since the engine bay has been converted to other uses, do you think they'd rent it out as office space? I'd love to have my home office inside a covered wagon!

Anything's possible, but for you, the commute would be killer or require relocation.

I was thinking, well, she's got wheels, right? So moving her closer would just involve deadheading at the back of the Empire Builder to Chicago, from there to Albany, and CPR could deliver her to Ottawa from there

I'd like to think that she's just on sabbatical, at least until someone with funds notices her and decides to give her a job with benefits.

If you want ensure it doesn't become scrap, e-mail any rail museums or other organisations that might be interested in it, even as a static display. They may keep tabs on it, or offer to buy it from the owner. A historical society can be pretty persuasive! And even if the prime mover has been removed, there are somewhat plentiful replacements out there so a running resto isn't impossible

Yes indeed. Though this one will most likely never move again. Except to the scrapyard. Bringing one of these units back to life is EXPEN$$$IVE. And the engine bay has been converted to other uses.

Hopefully not the scrapyard.
Yeah, a million $$$ overhaul would be needed to make her run again but it's not impossible. You'd just need soemone who's willing to throw money at it.

And the current owner would need to be willing to sell...

Well if they're unwilling to sell then the scrapyard is most likely out of the question, so she'd be safe... for now.
