Description
Natalia's ReportWinter is arriving soon and i don't have enough fund to move to the next town. i found a family seeking someone to take care of their home while they travel away for a month or so. The pay is good and they say that i may eat whatever they have left in that house and overall just make sure i enjoy myself and keep the window in check incase of blizzard. Easy task. They however warned me about a certain locked door in the 1st floor east wing.
I don't really have any business to go there anyways so i leave that place be. The first few days has no problem, come winter i repeatedly hear the shivering voice coming from the door. I walk past that door everyday and hear someone pleading for a warm food or just warm clothing. The house owner said that if i hear this voice, best just to ignore it. As the day goes on, the pleading grows desperate, sounds of the door banging, screaming and pleading for someone. It only happens at night too so my sleeping is often disturbed.
A few weeks goes by and the house is covered by a ludicruous amount of snow. Opening the door and window is risque, i can only exit the home from the attic just to get some air. The atmosphere in that house grows claustrophobic. Almost no natural light peering inside. I need my lantern just to walk around the house at day. After a few day, i was packing my things and realize the door to that hallway was open. There was a rancid smell coming from in there...
It was a bad idea but curiosity got the best of me, i take a few step into the blocked off hallway to discover a mundane looking hallway.. nothing seems to be out of the ordinary, i wonder why they blocked off this part of the hallway in the first place. Haha weird right? i left that place immediately and block it off with something heavy.
The snow eventually cleared up in the morning and i prepare to leave to the next town after meeting up with the family again, they look surprised for some reason. I took my pay and left Probably gonna stay away from caretaker job again for awhile.
I just smile and wave as i walk away from the family... and whatever that thing that's staring at me from the east hallway window.

Hello there!
i hope you enjoy the painting that the story that goes along with it. This piece is inspired from the quarantine that's happening where people stay at home for so long with rarely any contact to the outside world for weeks or even months. I've always wanted to write a horror story, a short one that relies more on atmosphere and the vague eerie feeling that makes someone uncomfortable, hope i did a good job on that. I also want to show another part of Natalia's personality and how she acts around the situation that befalls her. When she's not selling things to people or raiding old ruins or tombs, she would do odd jobs like this. Though this one in particular is much more memorable to her. Overall i hope it's good. That aside, stay safe out there
I hope you have a nice day!

I imagine that some of the rancid smell might be the evidence of one or more "free" laborers... spooky stuffΒ

This seems strangely threatening compared to the usual adventures. Like not a moment that will last long ... ? Tension between the very clearly present background figure and the subject ... I wonder about the difference between this tension and the oddly calm narrative that seems to go on for some time. The ambiguity seems to indicate she is writing in a journal at some point but then suddenly this moment takes place completely separately.

That's the vibe i'm going for. There's a reason why i make her face the audience rather than the "thing" itself!

First off, I absolutely love this!
From the art to the writing to the nightmares I'm gonna have tonight; it's wonderful!
I only wish that this journal entry was longer!
If you were to do just a written book split between the two characters of Dr. Rabbit and Natalia I would read that all day!
Though that's probably because I just love your characters!Β
On a side note, If you were going for an atmospheric horror feel you did pretty good.
If I were to say if there was anything that could be improved upon, there could be a greater emphasis on how the voice from the door could be affecting Natalia mentally. Though you did touch on it a little with the mention of it disturbing her sleep, there could be an emphasis on how that sleep deprivation could be affecting her.
Though that might need a little more room than you might have time to work on.
Please keep up the good work!

Question, have you ever thought about drawing a full body reference of the monster?Β I'm rather curious to see what it looks it in full view.

Wonderful story, feels a little of what happen in RWBY volume 6 when they got stuck in that snow storm and had to take shelter in the farm house. Only to find out it's not so safe or abandoned!^^ Great eerie vibes in the scene well done!

Definitely a creepy vibe to behold here. I do feel that whole quarantine-thing now. All the residents in the retirement home where I work are locked down (we deliver their morning and evening meals to them every evening), the city I live in has issued a semi-lock down where you can only get out for essentials, and more screenings at work. I will be so glad when all this is over!
