Description What Freaks We Are

Clinging to this odd bio-sphere,
so different from anything in the universe.
Upside down, right side up,
it makes no difference.
Clinging to life;
what freaks we are.

We have created our own clock,
our own time,
our own laws.
We have microscopes,
telescopes,
and gyroscopes.

We are artists and poets,
parents and children,
killers and thieves,
We are obsessed,
possessed,
and depressed.

Are we cursed,
or are we blessed?
How difficult to really know.
We are pathetic bastards,
without a clue.
Clinging to life;
what freaks we are.

Yes. I think about our place in the universe often, daily at least. Imagine it, no other planet even close to ours and here we are driving Volkswagens and Ferraris around on grids we created. And picture screens that move and in certain parts of our planet, humans killing humans in warfare. What about alphabet soup!

Aha, I see what you mean... The writing conveys the same sense of condescension; though my little take was far more bleak and overwhelming in pointing out the negativity. In regards to content, this blends the right amount of tonal disdain, positive retrospect and questioning needed to make the reader look about his or her world without necessarily being moved emotionally.

As poetry, this is great! I like your rhyming - once again your uniqueness shines through - and the flow of subject. Wonderful stuff Mr. Wilcox!

Just think, we heat our home in the winter, inside the house we put a refrigerator, in the refrigerator we have a butter warmer so the butter stays soft! That is how crazy our world has become!
