Around early 2011, there were rumours of a Mario and Sonic 3. I -along with many other dudes and dudettes on the web- got quite excited about this, hoping that Nintendo and Sega would finally give us a platformer starring the plumber and hedgehog, giving the Olympics series a break. What did it turn out to be? Mario and Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games.Recently, I've been discussing ideas of a Mario and Sonic platformer with my friends, and I said I'd draw a picture of Sonic speeding through World 1-1 from Super Mario Bros and Mario jumping around Green Hill Zone. Here's the result!
But really, Nintendo and Sega, why can't we get a platformer starring these two? Would it really be that difficult? Thinking about it, there's a good chance that it'd attract a large audience, particularly gamers from the 90's, which means MORE CASH!!!
Oh yeah, if I were to draw another of these, what should it be: Mario going through a Sonic level or vice versa? Also, what level should they be going through? It'd be helpful to know! ^^
Mario belongs to Nintendo and Sonic belongs to Sega.

I know! They should stray away from the Olympics series, 'cause quite frankly, it's getting a little boring now.
Mario and Sonic are two of the most famous video game characters ever created, so aren't Nintendo and Sega missing out on a big cash-in here? As long as the game played like their respective 2D/3D levels, had a lot of throwbacks & new stuff, and was generally considered to be great fun, then I'm sure loads of people would be rushing into stores to buy it!

YES! I'm glad you see it this way! I totally adore Mario and Sonic cross-overs; but I wonder why Nintendo and Sega won't do it.

I'm sure that Nintendo & Sega once said that the Mario and Sonic series were too different to have their respective gameplay elements involved in a crossover, but since Sega released Sonic Generations a while ago, maybe they're thinking over it again. Besides, don't Mario and Sonic both come under the platformer genre?

They are similar. Because Sonic was actually BASED off of Mario. Sonic's creator said so! 
Yes they both do. Sonic's focused on speed in the platforming as well though. I would love to see all the characters meet each other.

I actually have a game idea similar to this. After seeing Sonic Generations footage, I got to thinking: What if Sonic played like he does in Unleashed & Colours, while Mario plays like in the New Super Mario Bros series?

Ooh, that's a tough one... seeing Mario in Station Square might make him think he's back in Brooklyn... or maybe Sonic headed towards Bowser's Castle, using his Sonic Boost to plow through a group of Goombas...

Because when it comes down to it, there's no plausible way that Sonic would be able to get enough room to speed down any Mario path, as his stages were made to be platformers, not race tracks. Mario in Sonic's stages however, would be better, as there is quite a bit of platforming to be done, but considering the length the stages can get sometime, and that Mario is limited by his movement by the fact that he's Human, some stages may become impossible to do, or the players will stop caring when it drags on forever when Sonic could have finished it within the first 5 minutes.
Sides, Sonic's already going into the past to redo his own stages, why does he need to cross even more boundaries and universes?

They could redesign the Mario stages so Sonic can sprint, boost and quick-step his way through them. Believe me, I have loads of ideas for what they could do.
I see what you mean about the whole 'being thrown back in time thing'. Maybe Nintendo/Sega could create new stages that are based on old ones.
But me and one of my school friends were imagining seeing Mario in City Escape. It was such fun to think about, since we could picture Mario sliding down the roads (Who needs surfboards when you can use your butt?
