Atlas Seaboard publisjed 3 issues pf "Morlock 2000" about the adventures of a genetic experiment in a disturbing future. Shades of Fahrenheit 451 !
A scientist ,murdered by the mad government for being a deviate (having books) had grown a plantimal in his lab. One oifficer, from a garbled memory of H.G.Wells' novel, called the plant-man Morlock.
Morlock had 2 super-powers ,both lethal, both uncontrollable.
(1) If he touched anybody with his bare hands, that person turned into a mass of vegetation. He had to wear gloves.
(2) Periodically he would turn into a fungus monster that ate people. Whether they were good or bad. Eating somebody would soon revert him to human form. He had to take a serum to prevent these werewolfish spells.
He was shot by Midnight Man in the 3rd issue. Atlas Seaboard went under and the series was never continued. I presume he would have recovered, but no more story was published.
Morlock was one of Atlas Seaboard monster heroes (Morlock, Brute, Tarantula, Bog Beast...). No kiddy comics from Atlas Seaboard.
