Description For those of you who have followed me on Deviant you may know that I have for many years explored the potential control I have over my own body. Every now and then I post self portraits and reflections about the shots. This one was taken 2 days before my 50th birthday. Whilst there are many 50 year olds with more defined bodies than mine this particular shot is one that I am very proud of.

I have never been an elite genetic and through much of my life have carried far less tone than I have been satisfied with. However for about the last 10 or so years I have experimented with the concept of using my mind to firstly accept and then improve the things I am not physically happy with about myself. Whilst I have continually improved my diet and varied my exercise programme I feel that by far the biggest improvements with my physique have occured through developing a more accepting and open minded way of thinking.

For most of my life I have felt a great need to prove myself and an equally great fear of being rejected or judged as less. Whilst I still have a way to go I am far more self accepting and less compeditive than at any other time in my life. I am also finding that the less stressed I am about life that the healthier and more aesthetically pleasing my body is becoming. Further the more I am improving physicaly the more confidence I am getting that my attitude can improve all areas of my life.

In general I am trying to put no limits on what is possible in my life. To open my heart and mind to more clearly realise what it is I most desire. Like most of us my upbringing was very powerful inΒ  directing me towards what I thought I needed and also what was possible. I think this is very flawed as much of what I initially desired in life was not necessarily what I really valued. Also much of what I genuinely valued was often degraded by others close to me or promoted as inaccessible.

So these days I am more than ever reaching out for what I desire and doing all I can to make my desires a reality. A healthy and aesthetically pleasing appearance is one desire that is important to me. Becoming more secure, humble and warm is also something of great importance and passion for me. I believe that when all aspects of the self are in balance we can achieve unlimited fulfillment in life.

How old are you? I wanna look as awesome as you do at your age. You look like that guy on Game of Thrones who is the advisor of the Khaleesi. He's so cool and you just know he'd be a great swordsman.

This was taken a few months ago just before tunring 50. I have been tracking my physical progress for the past 10 years and seem to be improving. Hopefully this can continue as I hate feeling like there are definite restrictions in what I can create for myself. Will have to check out Game of Thrones to see which character you are referring to.

It's this guy.Β www.swaytheblog.com/wp-content…
He is one of the coolest characters on the show.
Hopefully they'll invent a cure for aging in your lifetime and you can eventually choose what age's your favorite for your body to be in. I hear we're a few decades away from curing aging perhaps.

Thanks for the link, think he looks way tougher than me. I may have to start doing my own research into anti ageing.

Well, we've got some top scientists looking into anti-aging. I'm sure they'll figure it out. Although there's several things we'd need to combat. Not just the aging process itself but we gotta find cures to all possible diseases as well as a way to clean the body from all toxins that builds up over time.

It is an interesting topic. Figure if a person has a will to keep living that they will be more likely to question and seek answers. Personally I am of the opinion at present that muchΒ  physical disease is as a result of fears, needs and emotions that have not been fully accepted and communicated with. I think that an open mind has the potential to revolutionise the way we create the physical.

WolfySnackrib In reply to Tonyr [2014-09-16 12:36:54 +0000 UTC]

I wouldn't agree that most disease is all in the mind. It's very physical and you can't help certain kinds of infections of dangerous disease.

I think that most would not agree with me re my beliefs about the power the mind has over the body and things like disease. However when you concentrate on specific topics you often gain acess to information that can be very valid and at the same time have you believe things that most do not believe. Also if I value something I prefer to believe it is possible. Hence re disease I have a belief that the mind/attitude plays a very powerful role.

WolfySnackrib In reply to Tonyr [2014-09-19 20:15:26 +0000 UTC]

Well the mind is still a part of the body. So any information and access is still depending on physical factors. But yeah, I get what you're saying. My dad was able to manipulate his subconscious nervous-system to regulate blood flow and what not, an ability he gained through Hatha Yoga.

I see where you are coming from. We are all affected by external circumstances. I suppose my hope is that I can develop a deeper mind s that I can begin to have some freedom from the restrictions that externals can cause. Yoga is one such example of how concentration can liberate us from certain physical tests.

Indeed so. I would do yoga if not for the painful spot in my lower back that gets worse with certain type of stretches. If it heals I could resume though.

I once asked a physical therapist i knew and respected who worked with stroke victims what was the difference between those who grew older and those who get better quickly, expecting a profound answer. She said: "this sounds too simple, but those who work at life and exercise stay younger, those who don't, deteriorate quickly. " So keep DOING. You are healthy, be like Jack LaLanne working out at 96.

I agree, I think our percpetions and attitude towards life shapes much of our action. Believing in abundant possibility gives us more will to work harder I believe. However even the hard work is not so hard when paired with belief.

I want to say that I always admired the way you take pictures. The shadows and lights are usualy just perfect in the pictures you take. I just love that because it really amplifies the details of human body.

So, thank you for these wonderful shots and ofcourse your models are amazing too, so thank them too. Keep up the good job and live long life.
