Description
Hello, here is the first in the line of my "epic format" statues, so called because of the size, time, and complexity of each piece. This ooak fine art sculpture is of GENERAL BLACKBLOOD from the pages of 2000ad, this is the second in my intended series of ABC WARRIORS. It shows BLACKBLOOD before he was (reluctantly) recruited into the warriors, here he sits, on a throne of iron, gothic and rusted, relaxing with a goblet of flaming oil, the remains of his victims around him.
The majority of this build was made in super sculpey firm, but other materials have been used, resin, plastic parts, metal chains, gold thread, and leather. On BLACKBLOOD i didn't want to do too much weathering or battle damage as he never looked too busted up in the comics, the use of light rust effects on the body are enough, along with the small areas of battle damage and wear, oil stain effect paint was also used to give him a realistic mechanical look.
Like most of my work i never do detailed sketches before hand, the build is organic and evolves as i work on it, this is true with the throne, i started with the basic shape, then the details and ideas came as i worked on it. I decided to go for a gothic look with chains and robot heads, i made it look very damaged and rusted to give the impression of age, lots of rusting and weathering techniques were used here, i love rusting stuff up.
The resin parts worked quite well, the candles could have been done the easy way (made in clay and painted to look like a flame) but i decided to cast them in resin so the flame would look more realistic, it took more time but was worth it.
A bit of fun was the "bile pump." Made in clay and some odds and sods i had laying around, green resin was used here for the extracted "bile."
Ok so this piece took a veeeerrrrryyyyy long time to finish, about six months, and the dimensions are......21.5 inch height....15 inch width......13 inch depth....
Thanks for looking.

Wow, that's beautiful! Incredibly well made and well coloured. So much detail and everything about this display is so bold!
