Description
This takes place in the world of FuFa cause that's where the rest of these comics happen.
The dialogue is based on last week's episode of Generator Rex. I'm loving this show more with each new episode.So this is the finale in the "Fun with Language" series of comics (unless I come up with a reeeally good idea, then there will be another). I've never studied Chinese in depth, but I at least understand that the term "Chinese language" is an inaccurate description. I mean, I guess it's not wrong to use, 'cause most of the time people know you're talking about Mandarin, but it's good to know differences in dialect play an important part in Chinese (or, for that matter, any country's) culture and history.
On another note... this pairing, whut. I don't really think there would be an attraction between these two. Personally, I think Rex is into dark-haired women who look like they know a thing or two about life (been around the bloc, seen things in their day, etc). *ahem*Circe&Doc*cough**hack* As for Blossom... well, you know my opinion. I hope. Anywho! These characters are used solely for the gag.

Unfortunately for Rex, they aren't!
"The pronunciation of the two are totally different. Hong Kong people humorously call it 'the chicken talking to the duck' — they cannot understand each other. Mandarin has four tones and Cantonese has more than six. The two are both tonal languages (different tones has different meanings for the same sound) and they also have different vowels and consonants too."

My dad's Cantonese (my mother's Hokkien), but we speak Mandarin. Apparently, speaking Mandarin in Hong Kong gives you shitty service from shops since they'll think you're from Mainland China. xD You'd think they'd be able to tell from your craptastic accents that we speak English mostly.
I love your art style - those eyes are gorgeous and Rex actually looks like he does in the show. :3 Quality work!

(Sorry it took me a week to respond! You know how real life gets.
That sucks they'd change your quality of service based on your accent. I see that sometimes here in southern America. I live in northern Florida (talk about craptastic accent, lol) and in southern Florida, it's well known that there are a lot of Spanish speakers/people with heavy Spanish accents. But when people from southern Florida come up here and speak Spanish, they'll get stares-- even though we're all from the same state!

You probably wouldn't get better service per se- it depends on where you go. Some people might give you better service, especially in the Lankwaifong city center area, on account that you're a foreigner; while street stallkeepers (or some jerks in the warehouse district) with less-than-godly morals might try to rip you off when they see you're not familiar with the currency.
But, really, in Hong Kong, it's best to know someone with at least some grasp of some Asian language. My Canto may be shoddy, but I have a Hokkien aunt who can bargain the prices of sharksfin down by nearly half! xD Like most places on Earth, what service your get in HK, regardless of how you sound like, usually depends on how polite you are.
In Singapore, we really do refer to Mandarin as the 'Chinese Language' - Chinese is the name of Mandarin classes and unless you're speaking dialect, you're speaking 'Chinese'.

Lol, theme park. You mean ADVENTURE TIME?? I love that show. But I see what you mean; it's one of those episodic series. I like Generator Rex because it's one of the few cartoons with a linear plot and character development (for minor characters, too), both for their pasts and futures. And Rex is kind of like Goku- he starts out the strongest but because he isn't the smartest/we don't know much of his origin for now, it keeps the series interesting because people watching aren't caught up with waiting for him to stop whining about how weak he is.
There's some good stuff coming out of the CN studio right now. It was about time cause there was definitely a bit of a dry spell.

I dunno, I saw an advert for it and I was like, Maybe it WASN'T Adventure Time. There were girls . . . it was animated . . . it looked like a reality show but somehow worse?
Generator Rex, huh? Maybe I can find these things in Spanish, for some reason they're not dubbed on TV. O_o Or maybe they are, just not the channel I was watching.
It IS about time they came out with good stuff. Just in time for us to, uh, be old and appreciate it?
