First off, let me send out a GREAT thank you to those who submitted their part of the project on time and completed. Thank you. It is people like you who make doing projects like this fun.

But most of all I'd like to say how disappointed I am. Utterly disappointed. I've had multiple requests in the past for a "group project," and when I finally do introduce one, the people who requested it are nowhere to be found. They do not participate, they do not even acknowledge the project at all.

I sent out notes to everyone in the group more than once about this project. I asked IF YOU WANTED TO PARTICIPATE, and people who did NOTED BACK that they wanted to. The whole idea of this was that if you did NOT want to participate, then you didn't have to, and therefore we would have no gaps in the quilt. It seems I was wrong in thinking this as well. People who wanted to participate didn't do their tiles, even though they requested a tile, and were given very large and generous deadlines. I even noted four or more times about it, reminding people, posting it everywhere I could.

On top of that, I extended the deadline a month more just to see if I could fill in the gaps I had, only to find that... ONE PERSON did their tile. ONE. I received only one of twenty incomplete tiles. There were thirty-five tiles in all, and that means a whole fifteen people made use of what they volunteered to do.

Then we had the people who gave up their tiles. Do any of you know how hard it is to relocate a tile? I either have to double up, do it myself, or BEG someone else to do it just so this project looks fucking good. If you volunteered for a tile, then you should be working on it, not noting me the DAY OF THE DEADLINE and saying "I'm too busy," "I don't have photoshop," or "You didn't tell me ..." BULLSHIT. I gave you all the specifics. If you volunteered, then you read and understood all of that.

So, you see your name up there? In a big white space? That was your tile. That was your piece of art you were supposed to submit. That was your duty, and now look at it. Look at what you've wrecked. These pieces were beautiful, all of them and the way I was impressed with how they intertwined, and now look. White spots that ruin the whole flow. White spots that make it look utterly like shit.

This just goes to show you... The participation in this group is little to nil. No matter when I ask for, no one steps up.

There will be no more future projects available like this one. Not unless people are more willing to take responsibility in the future.

you really shouldve done one of those things were one person draws the head then you fold the page and the next person draws like the top half of the body then you fold the page so the next person does an arm or the bottom half of the body and so on and so forth . i dont need to explain logistics on how to do it over the net

Ignored only due to the fact that there are way too many tiles incomplete to be dishing out to the few users who are willing to put in their time and effort.

And I told you, originally, that you could put what ever you wanted on the tile, as long as it merged with the border. Last I checked, what ever covered anything and everything.

i was willing to put in the time and effort, i downloaded photoshop just to do the tile. i also offered to do more. most peoples tiles do not murge with the border and if they do keep in tone with the border i think the quilt would flow better, but thats just my opinion. anyway it was a good idea. and theres no point in getting angry about it anymore. lets just hope the next (if theres going to be one) project will work out better.

Alright, this is in reply to anyone who is saying that this project wasn't organized well. The admin of ~tooled was more than gracious with time. And, in addition, if you didn't know what you were doing by signing up for this project, or you didn't know what the project was about, then you shouldn't have signed up in the first place or you should've asked.

Don't try and pass your lazy behaviour off on "oh, it was poorly planned. It wasn't my fault!" Take responsiblity and quit being such lazy assholes. The admin did as much as he could to ensure that this project was a success, but because it seems that some people are lazy and not responsible... it failed.

Again, thank you to anyone who did submit their tiles on time... it has made this project worth trying.

Frankly.. my buff has always been with the thickness of the tile border. It is very thin and hard to work with. Also.. I am busy.. I have a job and school and I dont have time to go in and search for info in the forums.. I have a butt load of art to get done and I feel that on the FIRST day of the project ALL of the info should have been clearly provided on deviantart. I am anything but lazy.. I finished my tile weeks ago. [link]

GothicCandy In reply to CatnipCantrip [2005-05-08 15:58:56 +0000 UTC]

If you finished your tile weeks ago why didn't you submit it weeks ago? Info could've been provided through notes as I'm sure the admin would be more than willing to provide information on a project he would like to see succeed. And about the tile border... I'm sure he wanted it to look original. If he had provided a larger border, that would've left less to be created, and besides, it couldn't have been that difficult because you got it done weeks ago.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CatnipCantrip In reply to GothicCandy [2005-05-08 19:59:10 +0000 UTC]

I didn't submit is weeks ago because I was busy with more important projects. The main reason I wanted the tile borded to be thicker was so that I could make a better guess as to what the people around me would create. I think that as people submitted their tiles the admin should have updated an empty quilt so that we could look at it and make better decisions when it came to making things flow.. thats all I care about.. the flow. Also.. It wasn't difficult for me, I am speaking for those who did not finish.

GothicCandy In reply to CatnipCantrip [2005-05-08 22:25:30 +0000 UTC]

Having a thicker border would've meant less creativity on everyone else's part. But, I guess I can understand where you're coming from. Although, I still feel that it was planned the right way. And, may I ad, that your tile looks good, but it would've taken a few mintues of your time to upload it. We're all entitled to our own humble opinions though. -_-

OK people. Bottom line is that the idea is good but was executed in a really stupid way. Half of the finished tiles dont even fit.. the concept of it flowing together just doesn't work. This is admins fault. The project should have been disscussed more. I was well on my way to finishing my tile when I was finally told how to do it correctly, and it just doesnt work. The border we have to work with is so thin its very difficult to work from it. I will submit my tile if people dont care that the blue border is gone.

Hay wow you guyz I didn't know there was only a FORUM the admin put up discussing the entire thing about TWO MONTHS(+++ February 8th) before it was due and OMG you guyz NO ONE posted in that thread and jesus christ even though the admin did say "reply if you have any questions" it was still STUPID AND DUMB AND NONE OF THE TILEZ FIT OMG!!! OMG I DIDN'T SEE THE THREAD OMG FORUM!!!!1 [link] s;action=display;num=1107910051

AND OMG NO ONE IS ADDING TILEZ EVEN THOUGH THE FINISHED PRODUCT HAS BEEN EDITED THREE TIMES TO ADD LATE TILEZ. MY CAPS KEY IS BROKEN OMG.

It's your fault it didn't get finished, because people like you don't read due dates posted quite clearly in a note, in threads on the forum that's been plugged on the main site many times and is in a permanent link to "website," and even in the main journal. It's your fault you didn't ask questions, and your fault you didn't ask for an example when I had one ready. I gave the best instructions I could. Go ahead, you try to describe it textually to me, and we'll see how well you do.

I understood the whole project well before it was due. BUT, IT IS TURNING OUT LIKE SHITTTTTTTTTTTTTT and you KNOW IT. SO.. AS YOU CAN SEE EVEN IF EACH INDIVIDUAL TILE IS BEAUTIFULLLL THEY ARE NOT FITTING TOGETHER. I THOUGHT THIS WAS THE WHOLE PURPOSE OF A "QUILT" SO... IF THEY DONT FIT TOGETHER... THE OVERALL PLAN IS OBVIOULY FLAWED. Thank you, goodnight.

Also.. I have finished my tile.. and I will finish any others that are missing.

tooled In reply to CatnipCantrip [2005-05-08 21:39:30 +0000 UTC]

Okay, say it's not working.

Then explain eon-lucid-dreams', or halfwaydemon's, or blood-stained-hands', or aforb-anduforme's, or fakeplastiktree's. Obviously more people were paying attention and DID understand with the same amount of instructions than you did.

Again, you explain it better and I will give you the benefit of the doubt.

CatnipCantrip In reply to tooled [2005-05-08 22:39:01 +0000 UTC]

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

tooled In reply to CatnipCantrip [2005-05-10 01:45:01 +0000 UTC]

I can't say you did understand the instructions if you couldn't get it to work with the border.

I'm not arguing this with you. The point is people did not do as they said they would. It would have looked a thousand times better if everyone had done their tile.

Also, I can't believe the admin is unwilling to accept that this project will not look AWESOME. How it is being constructed will cause the final picture to be jumbled and inconsistant. It also took a long ass time for the Admin to clarify how this worked, and to provide a sample.

CatnipCantrip In reply to CatnipCantrip [2005-05-07 06:01:04 +0000 UTC]

ALSO... "Look what you recked??????" It would take 2 minutes to add the remaining tiles. And I suppose you can't see that only about 3 of these tiles actually work. The instructions where not given clearly enough. It is your fault that this didnt get finished. Not ours.

i think this was a good idea...the execution just didnt come off right...my tile doesnt even look right in there...i htink i had the wrong idea about what this was supposed to be.

anyways....i think the idea is good...the execution is just poor. there needs to be more collaboration between the artists...not just "here's your tile...draw" that's why some of the tiles dont fit. and for those who didnt submit...they might be lost on what to do...stuck on an idea...or might not know how to fit it in. that and the tiles where INCREDIBLY small. that's very hard to work with. i think we should do a redo of this project?

No. No re-dos. No more projects. I am not giving people more time to complete on something they should have had done.

I did the best I could with a screenshot from the AEnima music video with my 15" laptop. The tiles were big enough, the execution was fine (Hell, I gave examples) and unique to the artist; it's people who made it look like shit.

I didn't find anything wrong with the planning.

I had plenty of notice and guidance on knowing what to do.

Those who took longer than I, and also those who never submitted were spoon-fed by the organisers. Somewhere along the line people have to do some hard work.

CatnipCantrip In reply to aforb-anduforme [2005-05-07 21:44:47 +0000 UTC]

I don't think you know what hard work is. Having a month to make a tiny image is more than enough time. Hard work is getting a large, detailed, commission finished in 2 weeks. This was a group project, and because it didn't involve any real group work it is impossible to get a finished image that looks any good. It was explained to me at the latter end of the project, the admi should have clarified everything as soon as the project was announced. I am concerned with the final image.. mainly how well it flows, and only 3 tiles submitted flow at all. I think the borders should have been much thicker.. giving us more to play with.

First off, the tiles that were submitted are beautiful.
Second, I'm sorry to hear that people weren't willing to do what they said they wanted to. You obviously took out some of your time to try to fulfill what others wanted to see in this group, but then your time was wasted by people who couldn't do what they said they would.
Hopefully in the future more people will be willing to go through with what they say and do the things they say they're willing to do.

Thank you for trying. And thank you to those of you who acctually participated. What is here looks great.
