Description
The Leader of the Ocean Rangers, it's Ocean Red. I've been playing around with the idea of making him a mistaken enemy in the beginning as he's with some of the villains, but once he is granted the Red Shark power, he realizes that he was destined for something more and quickly acts to help out the other rangers. I like the concept of making him an orphan and surprise, ends up learning that he is an Atlantean.Enjoy!

With regards to the overall team design, I really dig the usage of white and black/dark navy blue on their arms and torso. It helps break up the design and offers an idea (half of the sleeve being a uniform colour, the other their personal one) that I can't say I've seen or thought of before.
I've always been a fan of staff like weapons with a blade on each end (earlier versions of Yuno wielded such a weapon) so I like the fact Ocean Red has one and the overall design of it.
The shark motif makes sense for an ocean based leader and the helmet looks good as a resul. The gold detailing around the visor (i.e. the teeth) was a nice touch.
Great work on this. As I've said before, overall I really like this team

Thanks as always! I went with a dark blue to change up the common use of black as a nice change of pace. I used the concept of the asymmetrical sleeve from Dekaranger/ SPD (I'm a fan of the suit design).
I am planning on Kistesu Storm having a staff, so hopefully that'll be revealed soon enough.
I don't know if I mentioned this, but I wanted to have Red Shark a bit more rough around the edges. I like playing with him being somewhat of a villain at the beginning, but gaining the powers of Red Shark make him question the villain side and cause him to change his beliefs into a hero. Might be a bit too dark for kids, but hey, it's my idea.

I can't say I ever noticed that on the SPD/Dekaranger suits but the more I think about it, the more I wish it was used more. And on a bit of a tangent, I wish they did more with Boom's "SPD Orange" concept.
With that in mind, I do feel Kistesu Storm reminds me a little of Son Goku, due to his aforementioned cloud motif and useage of a staff. I have a feeling you may have already made reference to this connection but off the top of my head I can't necessarily confirm that.
Maybe rather than a full on villain he could be a bit of a delinquent/rebel style of character, disrespecting authority etc. Through obtaining the Red Shark powers and perhaps watching how the rest of the team acts he realises he could have potentially been selfish. I will admit it is similar to the protagonist on Yu Yu Hakusho (I recently watched a video on it as it was one of the various manga series I read during 04 - 08). Also, if you want to use the shark emblem I have on the sword I showed you for a powered up or alternative form for this guy, you're more than welcome to it.

I tried to get into SPD and for the most part, it wasn't too bad, but as I recall, Boom was a bit painful to watch. I wished they would've made an actual SPD helmet for him, but it's too late now.
That's why I didn't make that decision of Ocean Red's 'villain' ways official. Ever since I watched RPM with Dillon's 'rebel' ways, I've tried to avoid going for that angle on Red. (If you haven't seen it, it's really not that good.) I do like your approach but I feel it has been done before, but then again, who thought I would make it up to a 9th sentai?
Thanks for the reference. I didn't make the connection back then, but since you brought it up, I just might have to do that!

I heard SPD was meant to be a pretty good adaptation so it's interesting to hear your viewpoint. And I agree. I understand why they went with the modified In Space/Megaranger helmet but I still think and SPD variant should have been done as well. I've considered making him one of Gokai Orange's Gokai Changes and I've also seen a custom key based around him which is cool.
From what I remember of my anime fanboy days, it was a bit of a common trope in shonen manga and anime so it can be a little over used as well. Coming up with original concepts can be a pain and I don't think ever having true originality is impossible as someone out there is bound to have thought up the same ideas as you.
And no problem. Like I said, I have no use for the design but if it helps you then that's great as I love seeing old/scrapped designs get used elsewhere. For example during my Sonic spriting days I actually created two new characters based off reviving old ideas. One was a male echidna with tan coloured fur who was based off Yuno's original design (although I removed the fox's tail he also had) and the other was a female rabbit based off a possible plotline I was going to do where Yuno married Bunny Rabbot. They were a villainous couple, although Amber did have a small crush on Yuno, which was intended as a nod to the scrapped plotline.

I didn't mind SPD and enjoyed it quite a bit. (I reread what I typed and it came off that I didn't like it too much.) I did however not finish the series as I believe the television station switched the airing time of SPD and wasn't able to catch the rest of the episodes.
I don't mind it is a common trope if it is portrayed well. Dillon was terrible at acting like a 'tough guy' so that's why it was so painful. He suffered a bit from 'I'm the goddamn Batman so I can do anything' syndrome. Supposedly, he was tested on and better at everything than a standard human, so he had no faults. Booooring.
Thanks again! I plan on working on some Sonic inspired pics soon.

Ahh okay. I know most, if not all series of Power Rangers can be found on Netflix so if you are looking to catch up thee is that option. I used Netflix to watch Samurai myself but I can't bring myself to watch Megaforce...
And I agree. I think people may seem tropes in too much of a negative light as, like you said, when handled well they can be enjoyable. I'm not sure what your opinion of horror is (I'm not big on it unless the protagonist has a chainsaw for a hand; Hail to the King Baby!) but I feel Cabin in the Woods is an excellent example of a film that took tropes but offered a unique spin on them.
And I find that "no faults" can work depending on what other issues have been thrown the character's way. After all, Superman (supposedly) has no faults but with the right writing team behind him can create justifiable faults. However I'm guessing Dillon didn't have that option.

Netflix is what I did use to watch Samurai and Super Samurai and I was surprised to see so many of the older series were on there as well. (Netflix gets weird when it comes to which shows they keep around for a long while and which ones they don't, so it's nice to see some consistency).
I've always had a fascination to the horror genre. I loved Cabin in the Woods and I'm always up for watching a decent horror or even horrible horror movie any day of the week. I love me some Ash too. I don't know if I told you but I recently got the Funko Pop Ash at a store and EVERYONE was freaking out because they didn't know they had them in stock! It was a bit strange.
Dillon was established as the 'perfect' thing and his only fault was one of the villains was his sister so any time he saw her, he would lose the ability to fight and did the stereotypical "C'mon sis! Remember me!" while she'd wail on him. Boo.

I've heard it's due to licensing, so if they lose a license they have to take it down. For example South Park was recently removed from UK Netflix but where as in the US you can view it on the Comedy Central site, it's blocked for a UK IP address which I find extremely annoying. I normally hate pirating things and only do it as a last resort. While I've yet to pirate South Park, I have pirated Futurama (it'll be a year before I get to see the second half of the final season) and Supernatural season 9 has been dropped by the channel who normally has it, not been picked up by anyone else and the DVD may no longer get a UK release. I know I can get it off a specific site but I also know I'm likely to get a dozen or so viruses in the process .
I've yet to watch some other horror movies. As I may have mentioned, I'm a little squeamish and hate "body horror". I refuse to re-watch Shawn of the Dead due to a scene where a character gets his intestines pulled out. Granted there is some I don't mind but it's very easy to gross me out. However I am a HUGE Evil Dead fan. I too have the Funko Pop Ash figure and (until recently) he stood alone at the top of my Funko Pop collection seeing as how he is the king. I also got the Funko blind box Ash figure for a great price, although some of the paint on the front of his hair has chipped off :/.
I think I recall seeing that in Linkara's HOPR now that you mention it. I think it may have been a good angle for a flaw but it sounds like it was poorly handled.
