Description
Okay, I just got the sudden idea to try and make a short animation of Cike. This was the first time ever I've done something like this, and I don't think it's too bad. Obviously I omitted several details, but I was just testing if I can make this work. Only 24 frames, but it's a start.
I didn't have much of an idea what would happen in the anim when I begun to draw it, and the result ended up rather bloody, thus the filter.
I might or might not make these again later...
Cike (c) me.

Simply GIMP. I could've used SAI, but I didn't think about it correctly, so I played safe. Next time I'll definately use SAI, GIMP is a bit clumsy in the end.

Yeah, I've seen its animation system and I can tell it is way to messy for animations with more than a few dozen frames (and I think the standard animation framerate is about 24 frames per second!). I don't know much about SAI, is it any better to animate stuff?

Yes, the normal framerate for animation and movies in general is 24 frames/second, that'd take quite a lot to make.
Huh, actually I realized I can't safe as .gif with SAI at all so guess I'm stuck with GIMP.

Ohhh. Have you tried opening the SAI file in GIMP and then saving it as a .gif?

Wow, I can export it as .psd in SAI and then open it in GIMP, so it retains the layer information. I can use SAI for this after all!

Hehe, thanks!
I'm trying to get a worthwile idea for a longer animation, which is still manageable. ^^

lol I think this is a very good idea for a longer animation! How do you even manage to do this!?

I just opened a new canvas in GIMP and sketched Cike. Then I added layers and altered the pose (ok, mostly redrew the sketch in each layer), and so it came to be. It's very rough with only 5 frames per second and I wasn't focusing in it that much, but it still took good two hours to make... I can't imagine what it would take to make, say, 10 frames/second, full body anim.
That is of course what I'm trying to do next, even at the risk that I fail miserably.

lol That was very confusing for my naive brain but I hope you are able to do your long animation!

Ehehe, I love getting technical, eh? What I did was the digital equivalent of drawing the character into notebook pages, altering it a little each page.
I have now decided that my goal is to make a simple anim of that short fight between Shen and the prince, that took place in TDW chapter 3.
I have to make more tests before that though. I wonder if my (very limited) 3d modeling skills could be harnessed in solving the problem of the shifting perspective... hmmm *inflicts confusion* xD

oh ok that makes more sense! So basically your making lots of pics and then in each one you change it around a little to make it look like the pic is moving?

Simply yes.
Not saying that it gets any more complex than that, but it is tedious, repetitive work. Takes patience.
