Description Someone on Tumblr requested a version of Granada-television's Sherlock Holmes (Jeremy Brett) and Dr. John Watson (David Burke).
Seeing as this is my favourite Sherlock Holmes adaptations I was SO happy to go through with it

Brett is my very favorite Holmes! Burke actually ties with the Watson from the 1979 Russian series, lol. They're both so good! So is the Holmes from that series, but Brett has him beat by a little.

This is actually STILL the only Holmes series I've ever really watched. My husband prefers it. I've seen a couple of movie versions (not the RDJ ones, other ones) and not liked them. I dislike anything that tries to play Holmes as too sympathetic to people, or NOT a misogynist, or anything like that. LOL. No but I love the Jeremy Brett series. Feel this comes across quite well

TopHatTurtle In reply to Zebeckras [2013-11-24 02:38:09 +0000 UTC]

I agree - Jeremy Brett will always always always be THE Sherlock Holmes, 'nuff said!

I have seen a few other examples (Basil of Baker Street and Benedict Cumberbatch) that does well too, but normally I am not impressed with Hollywoods Sherlocks.

But Brett... Oh Brett Brett Brett

Well... 'Nuff said, really.

I preferred Edward Hardwicke to David Burke, but Brett was supremely awesome!

TopHatTurtle In reply to Kooshmeister [2013-04-22 23:32:22 +0000 UTC]

Hardwicke was sweeter and more gentle in my opinion. Burke fitted more my personal image of an army doctor. But God, if I didn't adore both. I REALLY loved the fact that Burke recommended Hardwicke, when they had to find a new Watson.

Kooshmeister In reply to TopHatTurtle [2013-04-23 00:04:42 +0000 UTC]

I guess my issue with Burke was he struck me personally as being bland, and his Watson had little to do, as well, except get proven wrong by Holmes a lot. He also seemed perpetually to be a sourpuss. Hardwicke's Watson on the other hand had more life and vigor to him, despite his older age, and in he seemed to be less acerbic and also a little on even footing with Holmes on their cases together.

Obviously, Holmes is head and shoulders above everyone around him intellectually, even a smart Watson, but I guess what I mean is that Burke's Watson's sort of bland personality and penchant for screwups and getting things wrong (and being admonished by Holmes) seemed to fall in line with the dreadful practice of making Holmes seem smarter by making Watson a doofus, whilst with Hardwicke they seemingly realized it made more sense to have Watson be more jovial and competent and thus Holmes' intelligence would come off as more amazing if he were compared to an already very intelligent guy.

Granted, maybe I'm misreading Burke. It isn't that I hated the guy, or his performance. If anything, their different portrayals make sense, and aren't jarring: Burke is the younger, more serious and inexperienced Watson, not quite on even footing with his friend and prone to mistakes, making Holmes tend to correct him like an angry schoolmaster. Hardwicke is Watson after a long time without Holmes, thinking Holmes dead, and now more world-weary and experienced but at the same time less uptight and more relaxed, and, having had to go it solo, he, while still not as smart as his old friend, is smarter due to experience and using Holmes' methods while on his own.

Thus, Burke and Hardwicke together create a character arc for Watson with their differing performances.

Wow
Well, I don't really have much to reply with.
My case is fairly simple; I adore them both, for the better and worse... Aaand that's about it ^^

No worries, and I totally don't mind I just love both Watsons, so I haven't really given it any sort of critical analysis.

Wow! They look just perfect! You convayed everything from their facial features to their specific expressions perfectly-not only cartoonized, but to a specific cartoon style too!
Love the Granada series. I have two or three episodes to finish the lot, but I haven't been able to bring myself to watch them the last few weeks, cause then I'll be done, and I shall be sad indeed

I can follow you; took me forever to finish them off too, because I didn't want it to end but they ARE fantastic, and I LOVE Jeremy Brett, Hardwicke and Burke so so much! Amazing actors.
Which is why I really hoped to have caught their personality and looks in mouse-form, so your words makes me very very happy

I was afraid I couldn't get it done properly, but I'm actually fairly pleased.
And yeah, most of the crossovers where probably mine

I'm glad I got them . I'm not so sure about Sherlock, but I feel that Watson looks VERY similar to David Burke, and hooray for that!
Thank you so much
The Granada-Sherlock is def. my favourite, with the new BBC one on the second place.

Since I personally haven't watched the BBC sherlock yet.. i'm in no place to compare the two ^^ i really like this version though ^u^. That being said, i'll take your word for it

I had tried earlier, to draw Watson.. but failed miserably. I was hoping u might draw them as mice xD so you can imagine how quick I was to fave this when i found it ^^ great job THT ♥
